Re: 96 850 glove box removal

2forty,

Sorry for the late reply - no, I didn't remove the dash. I pulled the cluster as they did in the video. A second person to help pull up on the dash is nice - but is not necessary. I fashioned wedges from various stuffs and used that to help create enough clearance to pull the cluster.

Of ...

Re: 96 850 glove box removal

Hi,

I pulled the cluster to replace the speedo gear and to change out some lights. This is the video I used:

I had more trouble than the guy in the video - but I managed anyway. Watch the reset knobs that stick out of the cluster, as they'll be the ...

Re: 1998 V70 Remote Start AFTERMARKET

My '96 850 came with a Code-Alarm (aquired by Audiovox (now Voxx)) remote start system already installed. I don't have anything to compare it to, because it's the only one I've ever had.

Things I like about it:
- it was already installed!
- starts the car from inside the house and thru 2 walls ...

Re: 1999 V70 T5 measured spark plug gap wear

Genuine Volvo plugs (2 of them) measure .031 & .032 after 45k miles. Not sure what they went in at.

(That's a '96 850 Turbo....)

Re: What should I invest in to check/repair

Maybe the heater core - I needed to replace mine when I got it with 140k miles on it.

(I agree with timing belt first.)

Re: '96 Platinum Wagon: broken timing belt. 7:18am

Yeah, so the machine shop work cost about $550 - that was for disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, parts and reassembly (tax, too). He replaced any worn or damaged valves, and a couple of cracked valve guides. He quoted labor at around $350. I would've liked a full rebuild, but I don't have ...

Re: '96 Platinum Wagon: broken timing belt. 7:18am

Ok, I'm done. It took a month, and about a thousand dollars, but Pearl the Platinum Wagon, runs again. Now comes the worry that will last a little longer than normal this time...("Did I do something wrong?", and "What was that noise?")...

I would've rather have spent the money on new struts, but ...

Re: '96 Platinum Wagon: broken timing belt. 7:18am

Hi folks, here's an update on my '96 wagon.

First off, it makes sense (from where I stand) to fix it. Plus, I have the time, and a '99 Subaru on loan from my brother.

Currently, I'm waiting on parts from FCP so the machine shop can reassemble the cylinder head. I'm also waiting on a timing belt ...

Re: Coolant top off

I noticed several after-market thermostats have no air bleed hole and jiggler thingy. I plan on adding a hole to mine before installation. 1/16" hole should do it.

That's exactly what I did, too. But I went slightly larger for some reason (.073").

Year's ago, someone told me to boil the ...

Re: 850 starter makes whirring noise

I agree with the other folks. My 850 did the same thing - it starts to turn over, but then just whirrrrrrs, then maybe a clunk as the starter re-engages as it spins down. It's the clutch in the bendix gear. Replace the starter (before it knocks teeth off of your flywheel!)

If you replace it ...
