squealing belt/pulley and idling rpms increasing; 2017 XC90
Hey, with my 2017 turbo supercharged xc90, today I noticed the engine light had come on. I had to drive quite a bit for work, and by the end of the day, when I parked in my carport, I heard a little squeal. I traced the squeal to the pulleys and belts on the right (passenger) side of the engine. Tha...

fuel system puzzle: loss of power at highway speeds
I have a 2005 xc90 T5 which I bought used off a car lot; no history available. It seems like the car was severely neglected over the last decade of its life; the engine oil, tranny oil, and air filter were filthy. Catalytic converter had frozen, and somebody had taken a grinder to it, I imagine to o...

'06 XC70 blower motor
The blower motor (climate control) of my 2006 XC70 is squealing like a trapped rat. I perused posts gaining knowledge on how to remove and replace the motor (I found this post exceptionally helpful: Re: P2 Cars: Blower Motor Replacement (How To) Postby worldbound4now » 27 Oct 2011, 10:50), but I was...

Re: 96 850 GLT starter. 1.7kw? 1.4kw?
I bought the car used in 2013, and it has always started immediately (first crank) with vigor. Only in the last couple of months as I've been wrestling with the voltage regulator has the starter taken a few cranks to start the engine. I attributed that to the weaker charge left on the battery from t...

Re: 96 850 GLT starter. 1.7kw? 1.4kw?
Jreed: Excellent DIY. Did you ever check to see if the increased size of the cable affected the voltage flow? I will take a hopeful look at those cables and crimps. I think I'd prefer that as a solution to replacing the starter. Are you still currently using the FCP starter? Any opinions on OEM/afte...

Re: 96 850 GLT starter. 1.7kw? 1.4kw?
To abscate: would corroded battery cables account for the car starting in the afternoon, and then no response in the evening? As sudden as that?
And, yes, that was measured with key turned, no cranking whatsoever

96 850 GLT starter. 1.7kw? 1.4kw?
Having starter trouble - I think. After normal starting and driving one morning, car won't start in the afternoon. full power inside, lights, dash, radio, etc, but no crank. It SEEMS like little or NO click when key is turned to start. 12.55V at battery, and had it tested for CCA. 11.8V at positive ...

Re: Step by Step - Replacing the starter motor 1998 S70
I'm looking at replacing the starter in my '96 850 GLT. I have no audible click when ignition is turned. Verified 12.6V at battery, 12.5V+ at starter, and 11.7V on solenoid as ignition is turned to Start. This should eliminate ignition and PNP switch as possible causes. Reading this forum gives me c...

Re: voltage regulator affects starter?
thanks for the pic, and the previous links. Yes, my alt is 0-123-505-014 I'll see what happens with the VR that I had already ordered. That VRB229 looks good, but I don't see (or recognize) the shiny slip ring of which you speak in the picture of your rebuilt alt. Is that something on the arbor of t...
