Re: Fitting the strut spring seats into the anchorage

I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

Blacklab-totally understandable. I'm sure it's just me, confused about what I'm doing. Here's a picture of the OEM strut. The thing I don't get is the bottom piece that I'm holding onto, the part the bottom of the spring sit on to, freely spins and can ...

Re: Fitting the strut spring seats into the anchorage

Yes the spring fits into the spring seat and the strut fits into the coil spring into one and only one position. But then the bottom of the strut piston rotates freely into any orientation to line up with the control arm bolt. Which leaves the spring seat free to rotate around inside the anchorage ...

Fitting the REAR strut spring seats into the anchorage

I don't understand how to orient the spring seats into the strut anchorage. It seems to fit inside fine in every position as you rotate it all the way around. Hard for me to believe it doesn't matter though. There are no obvious notches or anything to indicate where you rotate it to.

Any advice on ...

Re: Any issues w/eliminating AWD?

I'm in an area I'm not likely to find any used axles and the only thing I find online are boot kits or complete axles. Anybody seen a source for only the outer joint housing?

Or are we thinking I might be OK on the rear? Looks like I've got a mixture of advice. But... I appreciate it all!

Re: Any issues w/eliminating AWD?

Thanks guys. Jimmy57, so you think I'm good to go? Is my car a P2?
Also, about the missing wheel bearing seal, I never thought about that. How would a sealed wheel bearing get crud inside of it, not sure I understand.

Any issues w/eliminating AWD?

2004-XC70

My Haldex unit went out-AGAIN. This time I tore it out and removed the rear axles too. I couldn't bear the cost to deal with it all and then maybe have it fail again next year, so..........I committed to 2-wheel drive from here on out. Had to cut the driveline out of there anyway as it ...

Re: XC70 subframe washer plates

Help! 77 views and no replies? I'm sure my description is confusing but I don't know the exact name of the parts. Did Ingmar at Volvo forget to install these parts?

Re: XC70 subframe washer plates

Anybody? The plastic bushing guides hang down from the main frame. They reveal themselves only when you drop the subframe. They are about 1 inch in diameter and the subframe bushings fit nicely over them. Why would there be only two instead of all four bushings?
