Re: 2006 XC-70 Transmission Case Oil Seep

Thanks. No issues yet because I haven't bought the car - but I'm concerned about the cost of servicing the suspension. Cheapest price I've seen on those shocks is $325USD each at Vivaperformance.com - list price almost triple that here in CDN dollars - and that's each. But if they last a really long...

Thanks for the tips. Rebuilding wasn't an option in my case because the housing was cracked. There's also no rebuilder close by. I see IPD has the right Bosch regulator/brush set for $46USD (25% of the cost of the same thing locally) so I might just get that and put it in. The housing on this AC Del...

EL. POWER SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED with new alternator Topic is solved

Just replaced the alternator in 2001 V70 T5 - 140A unit - with an AC Delco rebuild. I know, I know, it's not a Bosch, but it's all that was available. It seems to work fine except, when I start the car, the DIM flashes the warning EL.SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED. When I say flash, it displays for about 1...

Good advice. Next major routine maintenance is timing belt and even that's a year away at this rate. Not quite the longevity of my 544s but a lot less rust - and maybe a wee bit safer.

More photos of the crime scene. If the oil were finding its way along the head gasket seam from the exhaust cam front then there would likely be a lot more drip & seep closer to the front of the engine and not as much where it is, right? Thanks but it's not the turbo. The oil starts at the opposite end of the engine and higher up than the turbo. The axle is also clean of grease - some of the shiny parts might look oily because they are clean or a slightly oily mechanic's hand gripped it or, in the case of the turbo plumbing, the oil...

Not getting better with time. This is about 10K km/ 5 months of accumulated oil spillage - actual amount less than 1/2 litre. This is not coming from the top seal, timing cover or cam seals. This sounds like a different problem from the one I had. I could always fill my tank - it would just take a really long time. Really long - about 15 to 20 minutes. Dry all around the valve cover on my car - at least parts I can see and reach. I've blotted all the way around with a clean paper towel and no oil residue at all. The seep only seems to start at the head gasket - although I'm hoping it starts somewhere else and just follows the seam to where it drips.

2001 V70 Fuel filling problem Topic is solved

Fuel filling problem on a 2001 V70. Any flow rate faster than 15 to 20 minutes to fill the tank results in fuel backing up in the filler pipe and shutting off the pump. In some cases it doesn't shut off the pump and fuel splashes back out. This problem started around June on a long highway drive. Th...

Solved - at least for now. RF brake caliper was dragging - and dragging worse when turned to the left. Crank no start fixed on the '01 V70. Situation had to get worse to find the problem - while it remained intermittent likely nobody would have been able to find it. The faulty part was the fuel level sensor (accessed under the left rear passenger's seat). Dealer cost to troubleshoot and repair $1K.
