Re: Shift knob boot
This video for an XC70 looks useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V0mwOMjbUs I've replaced the gear lever boot on a manual. I bought the replacement from eBay. The leather was glued to a frame that clipped into the plastic at the base of the lever and to a ring that clipped into the bottom of th...

Re: adding extra back up lights
Could you tap into the trailer light circuit? (Ideally by just buying the correct cable/connector rather than splicing in.) If that's fused for a 21W incandescent bulb, that should support a fairly hefty LED array.

"65" appeared on dash display when trying to reset service light
I managed to reset the service light OK, that's not an issue. In the process, I was fumbling around and seemed to trigger some sort of undocumented information display. I was holding down the trip reset button until there was a beep, then turning the ignition into the accessory position. The number ...

Re: Since we're talking about Air Conditioning shims with bread clips and wire ties....
I did the zip-tie fix in 2012, still working (though the UK isn't really the most punishing environment for an air-con system.) I did find that I got the same symptoms as a worn air-con compressor clutch (air-con cutting out and not re-engaging without a "rest") when the alternator was failing. I gu...

Closure Topic is solved
Took me two tries, about 4-hours each time. On the first attempt, I pinched an o-ring and it leaked oil, a lot. Stuff the manual doesn't tell you: It's very hard to get the oil pan out-of and into position. Removing the engine-mount helps. Then it is just hard. (The engine mount doesn't carry any of...

Taking a long time to build-up oil-pressure Topic is solved
2002 S60 B5204T5 engine with about 195K miles. I'm in the UK, which is in lock-down at the moment. The MOT on my Volvo expired three days before the start of the extension period, so I'm not really driving anywhere at the moment. In some attempt to splash oil around the engine to keep seals lubricat...

Re: A handbrake story Topic is solved
I had a bad e-brake/hand-brake for about 10-years, replacing the pads didn't help and I went through about 4 sets over that 10-year period, I'd got used to it and had it down as a quirk of the model. I was replacing the shoes again that I noticed that one of the cables running to the rear was seized...

Re: Fuel door lock Topic is solved
The lock on the fuel filler door should lock a few minutes after locking the car. (To allow you to fill-up after locking your car at the gas station.) My s60 is about the same vintage as your v70, when the filler lock stopped working it was because things had got a bit sticky with age. Removing the ...

Who made Volvo's exhaust systems?
Who made Volvo's original exhaust systems in north-west Europe (UK) around the turn of the century? The original system on my 2002 S60 lasted for 12 years. I had the rear box/muffler replaced in 2014, I think that's gone rotten now after only 5-years*! I feel it's probably worth replacing the whole ...

Re: Non- Volvo Related -- Camry Woes (Excessive Oil Consumption)
A buddy has a 2007 Camry. He's been using a lot of oil. Mechanic says he's got a problem with the pistons, but the mechanic isn't more specific than that. Producing black exhaust smoke and using a quart of Mobil 1 to 800 miles of travel. Diminished power is another symptom. Possible he's just deali...
