Re: "65" appeared on dash display when trying to reset service light

No, never got to the bottom of it. I sold the car about 4 year ago.

Re: Almost stalled out

The P1238 code is used for different things on different makes of cars. On Volvos, it's related to the Turbo Control Valve rather than the fuel-pump. I think it's triggered by the manifold air-pressure not matching up with the RPM and air-flow. I had this recently, check all the intake system hoses,...

Re: What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Last night, my S60 started OK, but stalled when I changed gear from reverse to 1st. Started it again and the engine was hunting trying to settle down at idle-speed. As I drove home it stalled as I stopped at lights. Some time later I got the "REDUCED PERFORMANCE" message. When I got home I...

Re: Parking brake cable adjustment

No, you won't break the cable. If you tighten it too much, the brake shoes will rub all the time. Try two or three turns at a time and take the wrench with you for the first couple of trips afterwards. When I last over tightened the rear brakes started vibrating at about 70-ish. I was able to pull o...

Re: Mystery liquid below front of engine

Is it power steering fluid? I recently had this spontaneously decide to leak from the resovoir. It ran down the inside of the wing and onto the subframe. It's much thinner than oil.

Re: Shift knob boot

This video for an XC70 looks useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V0mwOMjbUs I've replaced the gear lever boot on a manual. I bought the replacement from eBay. The leather was glued to a frame that clipped into the plastic at the base of the lever and to a ring that clipped into the bottom of th...

Re: adding extra back up lights

Could you tap into the trailer light circuit? (Ideally by just buying the correct cable/connector rather than splicing in.) If that's fused for a 21W incandescent bulb, that should support a fairly hefty LED array.

"65" appeared on dash display when trying to reset service light

I managed to reset the service light OK, that's not an issue. In the process, I was fumbling around and seemed to trigger some sort of undocumented information display. I was holding down the trip reset button until there was a beep, then turning the ignition into the accessory position. The number ...

Re: Since we're talking about Air Conditioning shims with bread clips and wire ties....

I did the zip-tie fix in 2012, still working (though the UK isn't really the most punishing environment for an air-con system.) I did find that I got the same symptoms as a worn air-con compressor clutch (air-con cutting out and not re-engaging without a "rest") when the alternator was fai...

Closure

Took me two tries, about 4-hours each time. On the first attempt, I pinched an o-ring and it leaked oil, a lot. Stuff the manual doesn't tell you: It's very hard to get the oil pan out-of and into position. Removing the engine-mount helps. Then it is just hard. (The engine mount doesn't carry any of...
