Do you have any method to heat the coil while testing? This would more closely match operating conditions for a coil. I don't know what temperature on top of the head would be, but at least coolant temperature.

Re: Tire Machine

I have tire irons and I know how to use them. Also have a home built tire bead breaker. This is a brute force solution and not good for alloy wheels. However, when used on steel wheels that have not rusted tire to rim, it is not too hard. Actually, rather satisfying when mounting rather new tires. F...

Re: Oil viscosity and the owners' manual

Yes, oils have changed greatly over the years. I have a reprint of a 1938 Ford car manual that advises for cold weather operation, 1 quart of oil should be drained from the engine and replaced with 1 quart of gasoline. When the engine was started on this mixture, you were to watch the oil level and ...

Re: 740 Missing, Idle Hunt, Occassional Stalling

Suggestions: This sounds to me like a vacuum leak. If so, the MAF will not be measuring all air into the engine and results will be lean condition. Check vacuum hoses for creaks. They do not age well. Try a water spray on hoses and intake manifold gaskets. The water will temporarily seal the gap and...

Re: RedC70 spazzing again!

Might be a bad brake flex hose at that wheel (left front). They can swell inside and act like a check valve. Could also be really junky brake fluid that has never been changed and the caliper cylinders are sticking. Try bleeding that caliper. See if brake fluid pushed out is clear or very dark. If s...

Re: General Tips for DIY Head Gasket Replacement - 99 s70 na

I bought the car to learn how to work on cars, and its been alot of fun but also quite a bit of money. I'm clearly having sunken cost bias at this point, but I really feel like if i can get past this issue the car will be in good shape, and it seems like a good job for me to try to tackle. Any word...

How many of you turbo owners will admit not getting the pressurized tube clamps tight at least once? First time you get the big foot down, it falls flat on it's face. Been there and done that.

Re: Rising prices on old used cars

Years ago I started thinking about the future of the hot rod and car restoration hobbies. How would they cope with more and more computer controls on cars? How would you restore a vehicle with more wiring? At the time, we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg with electronic ignition and electroni...
