Re: 1992 Volvo 940 Non Turbo, Sedan, Overheating, Poor Shifting Issue

This does not sound good for your engine or transmission. The milky liquid is typical of oil and coolant mixture. The transmission cooler could be cross contaminating the coolant if there is a leak in the transmission cooler portion. I would start with a pressure test of the trans cooler by disconne...

Re: What size heatsinks do I need for CEM?

Did you get codes when went into Limp mode? I have been having limp mode on hot days on 2001 V70, have not heard that 2001 models had known CEM over heat issues. My codes indicate a problem with Canbus signal to ETM.

Tip for easier work on front of engine

I thought of a tip today to make it more comfortable to work down low on the front of V70 engines. The steel radiator support has an edge on the back side that is always cutting into your arms. This is particularly hard when the fan is removed. I realized a length of split hose or wire loom would ma...

Re: 240 Lower Trim Molding Source

I went looking on google for Volvo 240 exterior body trim. I found several sources but I do not know anything about them and have never purchased from them. https://www.volvopartswebstore.com Appears to be a good selection of original Volvo parts. https://www.swedishautoparts.com Appears to be a goo...

Re: Fuel ejector/venturi/vacuum pump not working,

I replaced my 2001 V70 fuel pump last fall. I am not sure if all parts are the same for 2003, but what you have described sounds like the same system. I did not removed the fuel tank to replace pump. You can open access ports under floor on both halves of the tank. The line has to be pulled from rig...

Re: Converting Instrument Lights to LED?

Some thoughts on change to LED instrument lights: 1. Most bare LED's that I have seen are not 12 volt. More like 5 volt. They would need a properly selected resister to drop 12 volts to their needs. 2. LEDs are polarity sensitive. You would need to figure out how to match polarity or the diode (the ...

Re: Broken ignition lock and strange electrical issues

For the ignition switch problem see: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22911 This is a common problem that shows up on these Volvos. This thread shows how you can eliminate the problem without changing parts, but it will remove the steering lock feature when the key is rem...

Re: Warm restart in limp mode - 2001 V70 T5

Status report on problem: I have completed the wiring duct removal and opening of wiring between the fuse box and the ECM/TCM cool box on the passenger side of engine compartment. I opened the cool box, removed the ECM and TCM using the special tool. I inspected the wire connections on the bottom of...

Re: 1989 244 rough idle, shakes/hesitation from stop, TPS?

The loose intake hose may have sucked a little dirt, but would not have been too loose or it would not run. A little loose causes the air fuel ratio to be lean at idle and caused the shake. I don't think you hurt much. My guess is the TPS is fine.

Re: 1989 244 rough idle, shakes/hesitation from stop, TPS?

My thoughts are you have a moderate sized air leak after the Mass Air Flow meter. First check both clamps on the intake air duct. Position the screws where you can best reach to turn and tighten. Check all the vacuum hoses at the ends where they tend to split where pushed over the hose nipples. Some...
