Re: Control Arm replacement: do you grease the balljoint?
Great tip on the jack under the control arm applying upward pressure while torquing the end links! I did not do that. I simply connected them and tightened them. I didn't see there was any "wiggle room" once torqued fully down. On the other hand when installing the control arms, I did howe...

Re: Control Arm replacement: do you grease the balljoint?
Thanks J, I actually finished the replacement before seeing this thread. So I did not put grease on the ball joint "nipple" but WD40. I replaced both control arms and sway bar end links (with the heavy duty 12mm ones from IPD). This was to eliminate a ton of rattling in the front suspensio...

Re: Control Arm replacement: do you grease the balljoint?
I'm doing the same with my '97: replacing both control arms. I bought TRWs (OEM replacements). Inside the steering knuckle it is rusty. So I have used a scotch brite pad and WD-40 to clean out the rust. So silicon grease? I've got some of that blue marine waterproof grease that goes on boat trailers...

Re: Electronics Faulty. ABS Module?
Thx J, Since the speedo doesn't work most of the time anyway, all I would really be without is ABS for that time. My main thing was wanting to make sure that if I removed the ABS module and sent it to be repaired, that the car would still be able to start and operate. My concern was what if the &quo...

Re: Electronics Faulty. ABS Module?
Matty, Then I'll be doing business with you very soon. Question: -If I remove my ABS module and send to you for repair, will my car still operate except for the antilock brake system? -Or, is the ABS module interlinked to other systems and removing it would render my car temporarily inoperati...

Re: Electronics Faulty. ABS Module?
Thanks Jblackburn! You're always so helpful to everyone on this forum!
Matty Moo,
If you read this thread, does this look like a candidate for ABS module repair (one I can send to you?). Also I was reading briefly about programming issues on some earlier posts. Is that a problem for a 1997?
Thx

Re: Electronics Faulty. ABS Module?
I have a '97 850. Temperature affects the speedometer signal: It works fine in cool/cold weather. But it does not in warm or hot weather. Cool/cold weather : Speedo works initially. However, after a few minutes of driving (after the engine compartment is warm) all the sudden the speedo needle will j...

Re: Play at 3 & 9, just replaced outters
Thanks Erikv11, I used the "energy suspension" bushings on my Expedition and it steers like a go-cart! I love it! So I'm a fan of polyurethane bushings. Also, through Auto Zone, you can order Energy Suspension sway bar end links (Heavy Duty) for the Volvo 850's. I'm getting ready to order ...

Re: Play at 3 & 9, just replaced outters
The control arm bushings and ball joints all need replacing in my '97 850. I could either order new control arms or order the bushings and ball joints seperately. Questions: 1. Has anyone had good luck substituting poly bushings for the stock rubber ones? 2. What is the procedure for removing/instal...

Re: 850 Transmission saga continues/ blinking arrow
WOW! I just finished reading your 6 page forum titled "well crap- blinking arrow of doom". So it looks like replacing your S1 and S2 solenoids DID solve the problems, despite recommendations by JRL and others that you were throwing your money away! That was why I was suggesting changing so...
