Re: Your thoughts on a used V50 wagon?

I have 193k on my 2005 V50 T5 AWD. When I bought it I was very skeptical...after all these years it's earned it's keep. Buying a used one you should look for axle ping...drive shafts get sloppy on these after 150k plus...pricey. You can pick it up by giving it gas and then letting off...you should h...

Re: V50 positive battery wire replacement?

This V50 has spoiled me. I hardly ever need to do anything except throw brakes at it. I totally forgot Tasco.
Greatly appreciate the very thorough reply!

I 100% agree that OEM is the only way to go. I have had so many ridiculous problems using off brand parts...it's not worth it.

V50 positive battery wire replacement?

For a 2005 V50 T5 auto AWD Does anyone have experience replacing the positive battery cable on these models? Mine is corroded. Can I buy just the positive cable? Is there much to replacing it? I have not looked under the hood to see what's involved (except to determine it needs to be replaced.) What...

Re: looking at getting a 2010 V50 160,000 miles

I've been off the site for a while so forgive the really late post about the V50. Mine is an 05 T5 AWD with an auto. I have owned a few Volvo's and my sons also own them. I have to admit, it took me a while to really get to like the V50. I always preffered the V70 simply because of it's ride comfort...

Re: Crash Mode and start problem

There isn't any corrosion on the terminals. They are clean and seem to have good contact. I am expecting to end up replacing the wire..... I suppose I could pull the battery and see what I'm dealing with. The battery is also a possible suspect...it's original to the car. Over engineered without a do...

Crash Mode and start problem

V50 T5 AWD auto....175,000 miles Last week my V50 threw a Crash Mode message and would not start. The key would turn and the car would display the startup messages and then Crash Mode, check manual. The key could not be removed from the ignition. After some delay, the car did start. The next day I t...

2005 V50 AWD T5 Auto ABS Message

My V50 just popped the ABS message today. Is this module similar to my V70? Can I buy a re-built one and install it myself? What are other possible causes to check? Where can I buy a refurb? Can I unplug it and run without until I can get a part? I have 145 ,000 miles on this puppy but I did not exp...

Re: New Modified Transmission Flush Method with Pictures

"Mobil DEXRON-VI ATF is recommended for 2006 and newer GM vehicles and improved performance in 2005 and earlier vehicles, wherever DEXRON is specified." So, my question is ok to use it in place of DEXIII/MERCON? Was there ever a conclusion about this? I know the DexIII is OK in my 99V70. ...

Re: Coolant leak, passenger side volvo s70 1998

My 99 V70 recently sprung a leak. I was pretty sure that it was the WP but as suggested, it was a hose clamp. Do check the clamps. Our cars are 10+ years old and those clamps are subject doing service in contact with road salt, water etc. Good luck!

This is from the V50 owner's manual: At low speeds, or when the car is not moving, the temperature readings may be slightly higher than the actual ambient temperature. Bill. Hm, mystery solved. I knew I read something about this somewhere. My other Vvos also tend to creap up when they are not movin...
