Tightened it a bit last night. Will post after a few days as to if this worked.

I will get it up on stands this weekend and take a better look. I did put a bead of oil around the seal prior to put the filter on. In the meantime, I will simply try to tighten by hand. I never tighten filters beyond a snug fit that i do with my hand. Maybe this one is different.

96 850 base with 77k just performed like change with Volvo filter and notice a very slow drip of oil from the bottom of the filter. There are no visible oil leaks anywhere from the top of the engine...seals and gaskets look good. Any thoughts on where to begin?

So my car passed the glove test. Actually looked like there was some suction. Not much though. Definitely no air filling in. I did rev the engine as well. Good News

I have been using full synthetic in all of our cars. Also will use Volvo filter in this 850. Going to try glove test tonight. Will post the result. Assuming that oil trap is impossible to get to even if I wanted to change it.

Will do. Also... Wha type of motor oil do you reccomend? I am diligent with oil changes .

So might my oil trap be clogged? That why the hose blew off?

Can you give me a technical explanation for why I was getting fumes in the car and where they were coming from....and why this fix worked ? Also what waste other hose that I attached to the firetrap? Was that also a culprit?

Was a Florida car. The interitor is pretty nice. Was a lease vehicle from Chicago for first 3 years...up to about 35K. The rest of the miles are Florida. Unfortunately, I don't think it's been to a Volvo specialist since about 2000. So there is some work to do despite the appearance.
