Thanks, Mike. The VINs were triple checked and the new one is compatible and has been delivered. We think perhaps the head cracked. There was no evidence of water in the oil.

We located an salvaged engine with 73,000 miles on it. When I look up the VIN it belongs to a 2001 C70 convertible FWD. My car is a 2000 V70 AWD. Is it possible that the C70 would fit in my car? It has the same engine code of 56. I thought the family was 1999-2000.

And all tensioners were replaced, as well, with the serpentine and timing belts.

FYI The old heater core had been disconnected. With the heater core kit were all new hoses from eUroparts.com. The mechanic said that someone had worked on the radiator before because there was a hole drilled in the plastic shroud to access a bolt on the front of the radiator.

My guess is that it is some rodent hair. Have you checked the cabin air filter? Probably a nest in there.
