Personally, I would advise not attempting to clean but buying a used PEM from a scrapper, because there were many more PEM modules installed inside than outside, and these models are being scrapped at increasing rates. I got one for $40, and it looks virtually brand new. Taking them apart is problem...

This post was very helpful to me. I have a V70, and I'm pretty sure from your description and the parts diagrams found online the procedure will be virtually identical. Thanks for doing the hard work and posting what you found.

I wanted to add one tip/observation from my experience doing my 1998 S70 T5. I have two lines travelling under my oil pan.
