Level surface preferable, use parking brake and wheel chocks. Do not ever get under the car unless you have good jack stands in place (non-har...

I looked at that. Possibility. There's an oil drip on the bottom of the manifold - unless it's spraying from way down there... I'll check the cam seal at the distributor. 3-4 liters is an insane amount of residual capacity. None of my local stores stock the concentrate so I'll have to put the green stuff in that I already have on hand and do a change out later.

Inspect and change all fluids as needed. Timing belt, water pump, tensioner/idle pulleys not a bad idea, serpentine belt, Pcv, air filters, inspect as many hoses and vacuum lines as possible. Replaced brittle lines. If original change spark plugs, inspect cap/rotor. Fuel filter.

Re: P80 Small boat (500#) trailer mpg report

I love that one video robert made of him towing another p80 wagon with his p80 wagon. I can't even imagine the steering nightmare that most have been.

Re: Low speed radiator fan not turning on Topic is solved

Also check your AC high pressure switch. It's what allows the ECU to signal the low speed fan to turn on. Still not sure why using the app didn't trigger the fans. It's independent of all of the sensors/switches. Did they even act like they triggered at all? It doesn't turn them on to run, it just ...

Re: Low speed radiator fan not turning on Topic is solved

It sounds like it just defaults to "I don't know the temperature so lets turn the fan on high to cool the motor just in case its hot" I wish that was happening. As long as the infinitely resistive sensor is plugged in, the ecu reports a temperature and the fan does not come on. If I unplug it, it r...

Re: Low speed radiator fan not turning on Topic is solved

Wow, I was getting infinite resistance at what was supposedly 195F. If I can't get any sort if resistance reading, how can the ECU be reporting a temp value? What is the difference in temperature gauge reading between Sensor hooked up and sensor not hook up? Engine hot. Well the fan runs on high sp...

My parts car temp sensor was reading like 1800ohms so I think that gives me my answer. ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE TABLE Temperature ° F ( ° C) Ohms 32 (0) ............................7300 68 (20) ......................... 2800 176 (80) ......................... 300 212 (100) ........

Now that I sit here and think about it. This may explain why I get such terrible mileage and always run rich. Maybe.

Re: Low speed radiator fan not turning on Topic is solved

Today's diagnostics include using the 850 OBD-II app to troubleshoot the cooling fan issue. I've used this app many times for other issues but I was unaware of the cooling fan testing options. Under "service" and "advanced" there are 2 options for cooling fan tests under "mototronic" and "MSA 15.7"....

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky)

Your '96 should have the OBD2 diagnostics, correct? The "850 OBDII" app allows you to test the high and low speed fan function (through the ECU). I just recently used it and it works well. That will help rule out ECU wiring or ECU issues. I had no idea that was a feature, will try it out tomorrow. ...

1996 850 Low speed radiator fan not turning on [Bad ECT sensor] Topic is solved

Copied from the WDYDTYVT thread. Background: a few days ago I got to work early let my car idle for a bit. A few minutes later i noticed smoke coming from under the hood and shut the car off and popped the hood. I saw copious amounts of coolant pouring out of the reservoir cap. Dash gauge was normal...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky)

Spent the afternoon trying to diagnose why my low speed fan doesn't seem to work. Things I'm noticing: At 206F the overflow tank is filled to the top At 208F the lid begins leaking Turning on the AC engage the fan and brings the temps down quick. The yellow wires for the center relay plug were cramm...

Re: Fuse Box removal on an 850

This may be too late to do you any good but I installed a passenger power seat in one of mine and the wires were there already. All I had to do was add the missing relay for the passenger seat that was omitted at the factory because the car came with a manual passenger seat. Mine unfortunately did ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky)

So I took a crack at the thermostat replacement. I have been periodically spray penetrating oil for the last few day. I hate tha :? :? t I have to disconnect the fuel line to reach one of the bolts. I incidentally discovered no fuel pressure in that line but it has been sitting for 36 hours, so mayb...

Is there a reason why the "what did you do to your volvo today" thread is locked?

What temperature does the relay kick the fan on? I watched it today and at 206 F the coolant had expanded to the point where I was sure an overflow would happen. I turned the AC on and the temps came down quick.

The 850 OBD-II app is made by a guy in sweden. He used Jonesrh's program to write the app since it was free for public use.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky)

It depends how hot it got. If there's a blockage due to the thermostat and that's what over pressurized the reservoir, the gauge likely wouldn't have moved if you caught it quickly. These gauges don't tend to respond very quickly. Update: Rented a coworkers car for $5 and got some coolant at the lo...

So do you think my temp sensor is probably fine? I have a thermostat just haven't swapped it yet.

So got to work early and am sitting here idling for about 10min when I see smoke coming from under the hood. Dash temp is reading normal. Pop the hood only to see the coolant reservoir overflowing. What's going on? I've suspected a bad thermostat but not a bad temp sensor.

Anyone had any luck just buying aftermarket headlight and changing over the reflectors? Eeuroparts has Uro headlights for $69 each right now.
