does it sound like a metallic knock? I still have that knock sometimes and I believe that its because the center steering shaft wasn't centered (1 side longer than the other). I had vibration on my right sideview mirror similar to what you described but mine is an 02 XC70. It was fixed by replacing those clips and tightening the bolt(s)!

I'm pretty sure mine has "A" stamp on it based on my internet research. The trans shop can fit "B" or "C" stamp VB into my car but I didn't want to take risk dealing with wiring harness and B5 control springs in those ones.
