Is every XC70 a turbo? I think it is...
I've got some good experience with a 2002 S80 and 2004 V70, but what I can't quite pin down is if every second gen XC70 (2000-2007) is a turbo. I'm pretty sure it is, which brings me to my next point: in my research, I've learned that the turbo Volvos have potential for transmission issues, since th...

Now I’m considering a 2004 V40. At what point am I a “Volvo guy?”
Hey guys, I’ve had experience with a 2004 V70, a 2002 S80, and now I’m heavily considering a 2004 V40. Very clean car, about 140k miles. I’ve fought the DIM failures, and had to use Xemodex for a CEM failure. My thought is that the V40 is going to potentially have the same types of issues, perhaps....

Re: Cheap S80 for sale, but is it worth it?
July 2019 Update: The car has been a rock star (knock on wood) and I’m super glad I bought it. The brake booster baffle developed a leak, and while I ordered a repair sleeve for it, I’ve simply been patching the crack in it with silicone whenever it acts up. If and when that ever fails, I’ll replace...

Re: Got an S80 for $300, now to solve P0432, P0422 codes
Thanks for the responses. Believe me, I'm taking each thing into consideration that I'm hearing. I think I can research what the vehicle is doing in terms of rich/lean conditions by examining the fuel trim levels. I have a scan tool that allows me to record that data and look at it over time. I woul...

Re: Got an S80 for $300, now to solve P0432, P0422 codes
I fixed my J hose at home, wasn`t real fun getting hands and tools into the limited space, but if you're patient it`s ok. I didn`t remove the gas tank. I found some tutorials that showed how to accomplish this without dropping the tank, but if I have to drop it, I'm comfortable doing that. Thanks f...

Re: Got an S80 for $300, now to solve P0432, P0422 codes
P0456 is evap leak small, it can be a number of things but, most commonly the J hose on the charcoal canister. It is on top of the gas tank an you're looking at $400-1000 to fix that depending on labor rates. I would tackle this myself. This is truly just a simple hose, right? Not some complicated ...

Got an S80 for $300, now to solve P0432, P0422 codes
I'm not sure really where to start, so I'll start at the beginning. Skip to the bottom if you'd like my concise questions. I'll really try to add all of the pertinent details, but I might miss something, so if I need to clarify I'll be happy to do so. Sometimes I just need someone to talk to about d...

Re: 2004 V70 Electrical hell; CEM, iImmobilizer? car dead
I apologize for the late reply on this, as I thought I had already done so. Turns out the first CEM from Xemodex was faulty. I don't know what the reason was, but upon receiving the (2nd) replacement the car has been running like a champ ever since. To their credit, Xemodex was awesome through the e...

Re: Cheap S80 for sale, but is it worth it?
That's a great point. I might just ask the mechanic if he's got any ideas what happened. I might go back today, but still wavering.

Re: Cheap S80 for sale, but is it worth it?
At this price I would pass, I'm about to get a parts car for $500 and strip it. I would never think of getting it driveable. Whatever you think it might cost for the converters, double that price. In the end, you might be buying a $5000 parts car. It's driveable, only a "parts car" in nam...
