Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
Is anyone else surprised by all that rust and corrosion around the bushings? I've started at bushings for far too many hours of my life, and I never saw any rust like that. I wonder if you had some water coming from above and pooling around that nut... I can't wait to see how it gets welded back to...

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
Well time for some updates. - I put my cadaver back together so I could move my engine support over to the real car, no more practice not that it required a lot. I removed the seat, carpet, and cut the foam underneath. I Was very happy to see the signs of a plug on the newer car as well, cut the plu...

Afraid I'm not sure which item you're asking about.pkc303 wrote:Eric,
Is that the nut plate shown earlier? Was it initially attached/welded?

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
Well I played with my cadaver a little bit more today. I dropped the subframe enough that I could make the following observations: - The interior piece does not protrude through the body - Said piece doesn't have any easily recognizable joining method - I'm thinking it is a structural adhesive Anyon...

I'd pull the hoses from the turbo to see how much oil is in them. Oil dripping from intercooler?

I have a set of bushings. Probably makes sens to swap them out if I'm going through all o...

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
My thoughts: 1. Leave this alone b/c it is not fun to play with the broken welded nut as you know. 2. If you can lower the subframe just enough (by removing other subframe bolts, but not the troubled bolt) for the Steering Rack job. Then once done, bolt everything back together. A broken nut with a...

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
On another note. Once I get the carpet pulled back I have the foam underneath. Looking around it seems that most people suggest just cutting that. Is that still the recommended route or is there a new method?

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
Can't really see anything in the picture. You are going to have to cut out a square in the cabin of the floor board. Seat, carpet and pad will have to be removed. Take measurements to find where the center of the bolt is located inside the car. Draw out a 6 inch square on the floor board and use a a...

Re: Subframe weldnut failure?
I'll grab a picture this afternoon.
I'm not suggesting welding the subframe to the body though. My suggestion is to perhaps cut into the body so that one can weld whatever I'm threaded into back into place.
