Re: Catchy Steering

By "rubber boot" do you mean the one inside the car that goes through the firewall? If so, peel it back and spray it with some WD40 or similar. If the grease is gummed up this should thin it down. If it resolves the problem do a deep clean and grease. There is also a bolt on the steering rack that c...

Re: troubleshooting help please

Do a glove test on your PCV system.

Check to see if you have a clogged cat, burning all that oil is not good.

Re: Head removal to clean carbon

It depends on whether you are going to farm out any of your head work or just clean it up, check it for flat, and reinstall. In other words, your budget and your solutions. If your head is flat you can clean it up your self, lap the valves/seats and put it back on. Of course after cleaning up the cr...

Re: Transmission Replacement

cleven: While your solution worked out well for you, it is not always possible over seas. I don't have any problem with your approach. A number of years ago, I bought 3 V70 transmissions sold as cores - if I recall for $50 total. I imagine the cores came from people that did exactly what you did. I ...

Re: Transmission and engine torque struts

I hope you did not over torque the bolts and stretch them to snapping point. Just saw this on my BMW where the prior owner tightened the bolts until they stretched and no longer held torque. I touched them to see if they were lose and the heads broke off. If this happen, it fits what you said earlie...

Re: seized eccentric bolt/bushing rear control arm stay 2004 XC70

If time and money is not an issue, I would buy both of the kits you showed. Each kit serves a different purpose. The cups can push and receive, but for pushing (and receiving) they take up a bit of space. The cups receive the bushing that is getting pushed out. I may buy the pushers as I don't have ...

Re: Transmission Replacement

So you have about 103,000 miles. How does the transmission fluid look and have you done a drain and fill? Did you see any metal particles in the drained oil (if done) or was excess metal found on the oil drain plug. Unless your transmission has a hard part failure, which is very rare at your miles, ...

Re: seized eccentric bolt/bushing rear control arm stay 2004 XC70

I have that kit, I bought it from a guy off Craigslist. He bought it off eBay if I recall. The kit works well, but for your application you may be able to use one of the cups for the outside only. To be honest you can use a piece from the plumbing section, a suitable size 1/4" steel plate with a hol...

Re: Is it possible I moved my timing, changing rear camshaft seal? Topic is solved

I think you are correct. You have an intermittent connection problem. Look at both ends - sensor contacts and harness contact. Make sure wires are not compromised. Also make sure the sensor itself is not damaged. I recall reading about a forum member having problems with an oil sensor and in the end...
