Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Pleats! That almost made me spit out my coffee! When I took off the old starter, I fished the missing piece of the bell housing from the flywheel. Breaking that piece (not by me, I don't think) was quite an achievement! IMG_20181121_140707912.jpg Ouch, somebody really did a number on that flywheel ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Changed the timing belt/tensioner/idler, water pump, and front and rear cam seals on the R today. The car still runs, so I’d say it went smoothly! Hopefully I can get the Miata sold soon so I can get the ECU tuned and take care of everything else. Time to get this project done and move onto the next...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Well, I figured out why the starter had made the spinning sound in the '99 V70 XC AWD. It wasn't a bad bendix. The flywheel has a few mangled and missing teeth. With the starter motor out, I popped off the right wheel and turned the engine by hand. I couldn't see clearly but managed to take a video...

Well, if the filter was really dirty and clogged, you may be feeling an actual difference!

Personally I find pizza to taste better without engine oil on top.
Agreed!

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Starter looks fine. You might have to look at the flywheel teeth while someone turns the engine over with a big socket, he reports sadly, looking for unhappiness. Good news is you have friends in Volvo places willing to help pull engines That's what I'd do next. Just leave the starter out and watch...

I had a KAE relay work fine cold, but as soon as the engine heated up it would misfire. Brand new Volvo relay fixed the issue. These things seem to defy logic.
My KAE relay failed completely after a few months. Always use an original Volvo relay!

Wow, $1,500 to do a fuel pump on a FWD P80?

Anyone need me to replace their fuel pump for them?

Re: 1998 V70 GLT Stops abruptly after new head

And I highly doubt the relay is the culprit. A dead fuel pump relay will usually result in a no-start. I think we have had 4-5 documented COLd weather intermittent run/ starts solved my fuel pump relays this fall?? Is that right? Interesting... I figured that was something that either worked or it ...
