Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Concerning an air leak, I did spray ether all over all the lines and there was no change in idle. Is there another test to perform just in case?

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
I've tested with OEM Volvo plugs and coils as well as aftermarket NGK plugs and blue boot coils, whatever brand makes those (not the IPD ones). No change.

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
I had a yellow label on the previous engine with 200k miles on it... I'm not certain when we got the yellow label etm. My pops got the car in '02, so somewhere along the way we must've picked it up. The engine I purchased had a white label ETM on it, which that must have 109k miles on it.

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Somewhere along the way in fixing this, the wires to the coils on 3+5 got mixed up. No wonder I couldn't get it in time. I know for certain I didn't do it because I'm very aware of keeping track of things like that. I'm quite certain it was the same mechanic that was supposed to do the timing belt ...

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Sorry I didn't update sooner but I did go ahead and purchase another engine for $850, it had only 109k on it (according to the junkyard that has a good reputation and good reviews online). I did see the old head, it was cracked all the way through, right down the middle. Anyways, swapped them out ...

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Alright bad news. I brought the head to a machine shop, the guy told me the head is cracked on each exhaust valve. So that head is scrap.
I'll end up getting a new engine I think. By the time I get a head gasket kit, bolts, no promise the valves on another head are solid, no promise the heat that ...

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
Okay, that makes sense about TDC.
Did a reset on the timing. Here's what I did exactly so you guys can check if I'm not making a mistake somewhere along the way.
1. Loosen timing belt
2. Straightened exhaust cam to horizontal. Locked cams with locking tool.
3. Moved crank slightly CCW so the ...

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
With the spark plugs removed (all gaps were mostly .030 give or take .001, and one which was .038... I don't know what happened there) I checked tdc for cylinder 1 at the top of the marks. When I found tdc, all gears were advanced one tooth, including the crank. Also, moving to the marks, my exhaust ...

Re: 2001 v70 2.4t misfire issues
I don't know if the other guy removed the sprockets. I don't think so because they would've been cleaned.
This most recent time that I set the timing I did rotate the crank two times by hand and the cams came back to horizontal. Is two rotations enough or should I be checking it again?

Re: 2004 V70 2.5t Headlight Outage
Do your high beams still work?
Check the fuse box under the hood on the driver side. The cover has the fuse labels.
It could be an odd coincidence that both lights went out at the same time. Check your bulbs.
