07 S40 2.4i: Car suddenly hot?

Hi everyone, took a short drive yesterday, a few miles to my folks' and back and when I got home, I felt a lot of heat coming from the car. I opened the hood and it felt like the car in Summer... Is this natural? No check engine lights and nothing out of ordinary. Could this be a heatshield out of w...

I think Volvo mounts are designed to cradle our engines cradled in ways Toyotas and Honda don't. Which in large part determines why we like the feel of our cars! (Having replaced Volvo, toyota, Nissan, and Honda mounts... the Swedes do it a whole other way!) There are four mounts to check out... I b...

I could've sworn someone had a bear of a job with the rear calipers...

Yeah, they're stuck open. I guess I'm lucky here!

I've know three front calipers that stuck closed. My rotors did like that!! Thanks everyone.

Hi everyone, still waiting for ready monitors on the S70. (Only about 30 miles driven since the SAS diode delete, fingers crossed it'll work!) I'm not driving it too much lately. But whenever I do, I have to "wear" off rust on my rotors. No biggie. However the other day I noticed that the rust on my...

Evap is the only big one, cheap part but lots of labour to get to it. Worse if/when you have to repair the dash mounts. Once you do the Evap, everything else is bolt on/ off and you don’t lose the car use during the work, unless it’s the compressor (needed for SERP belt) Well, abscate, you're forge...

The engine management is complex, it’s not just looking for signals, To pop a misfire code , for example, P0303 for cylinder 3 misfire, it has to be detected over a certain interval for at least a certain number of revolutions. If the evap system can’t complete, it tries twice more during your driv...

Evap is the only big one, cheap part but lots of labour to get to it. Worse if/when you have to repair the dash mounts. Did you check your engine mounts? You have two mounts near the transmission: the torque rod mount (Hutchinson 9487349) and the torque arm (31277998--Volvo only...). That top system is designed to close when it won't open. The override doesn't happen unless you depress brake pedal and then hold the switch in close position for over 10 seconds. I feel like this answer has been answered a few times in comments here and there. But I can't seem to find it.

How hard would this be? I'm imagining it would involve swapping computers and part (or all) of the wiring harness. Completely doable? Or a pain?

I went to 140k and replaced them *adds another item to the list for this summer...* I know right? We've been geting a sporadic P013...

- Volvo oil filters can leak, I think it's pretty normal at this age. As long as it isn't gushing from the filter, you're probably OK. - Oil leaks from around the edges of almost all our oil pans. At 22 years old, it's going to leak a little. (Unless of course you've done it all over again.) - Have ...

Hey Tankdog, the airbox thermostat mod is about the only thing you can do to really improve HP on an N/A. Especially if your thermostat is broken has cut off cold air completely. Other than that, your usual stage zero stuff helps, too.

I think we need three definitive sound files to begin! Bad front sway end link clunk - that overbearing, depending clunk-clunk that occurs when you up and down a speed bump. Torn spring seat thunk- that clunk that sometimes disappears, but appears on some turns/bumps/acceleration Control Arm bushing...

Make sure the sway bar end links are tight. Very tight. Very very tight. And check the engine3 mount, sway bar bushings as suggested. Problems with the subframe bushings are possible, but they are very rare while the other things mentioned are very common. Then you will have a problem undoing them....

Re: Monroe Shocktober Rebate.... Final price for pair is $79, shipped!

I've heard (relatively) good things about the Monroe struts. I have (slowly) come to recognize that you get what you pay for with these cars. But then again, I put about 15K on my GabrielReadymounts over almost 3 years. We don't drive that much here in NYC. The spring seats aren't in good shape (no ...

Re: Swedish Car Parts strut quality

I also have Meyle HD control arms, sway bar links, and inner and outer tie rods. I used the same eBay strut mounts as my cousin, and I haven't had any issues with them yet. But like I said, I would recommend getting better quality than eBay off-brand parts. I plan on changing them out again anyway ...

Monroe Shocktober Rebate.... Final price for pair is $79, shipped!

I know, I know... But if you're thinking that your car needs some new Struts. Monroe OESpectrum struts are $52.79 a piece over at Rockauto and come with a $30 rebate (Visa Prepaid card). Approx $109 shipped, minus $30 is $79. For quality struts that's not bad at all. That's $150 for spring seats and...

Fun Weekend: Swapped out some front and rear engine mounts on my brother's V70. - Had to loosen the fan shroud to do the job... (This doesn't have to be done on the Manual Transmission P80s!) Mounts weren't oozing yet, but compressed by over a cm! Took me 6 hours the first time around. This time aro...

Oooh, a Proto! My cousin's '99 needs that line, we almost had it at the PaP last week, but he decided it was "too hard" to get off. Seriously!?!?!? Anyway, the Saab now runs! Has a massive oil leak from the timing chain tensioner that I cross threaded, but that is curing right now with a forum-sugg...

Helped my brother swap out some original 20-year-old transmission lines that were weeping ATF all over the driveway for the past three months. On a 98 V70 this job was pretty straightforward and easy on an N/A: only tools necessary, 10mm and 12mm sockets, some 1/4 wobble extensions, perhaps a 1/4 fl...

Thanks for the input, fellas. The bastards strike again! Yeah, mint 2000 S70 with 130K on the clock and pretty decent interior. But hood, trunk and one door are all a mess. I could probably pick it up for $250-350 and park it here. But aside from the 16" rims and the radio, maybe the windshield, meh...

P80 and Bastards Compatibility Question (re: trans, engine)

Hello everyone, hope everyone is gearing up for a good weekend of work! Let me ask you all couple of three things... 1. Can the M56 manual transmission (or other standard P80 manual transmission) be installed into a 99/00 (Bastard) P80? 2. Can a 99/00 (A/T) engine be installed into (or is it onto?) ...

Re: Weak Brakes on 95 T-5r

The ABS pump only needs to be bled if you're replacing the master or if by some chance you let the reservoir run low. Doesn't sound like air in your ABS pump. Let's troubleshoot: - a check valve (which you replaced, so it's probably not the case); - the brake booster vacuum hose (which would hiss an...

2000 Volvo S70, bad body damage, still runs... (NYC)

The owner of this 2000 S70 stopped me the other day wondering if I was interested in parts from her car. Of course! A hood, some quarterpanels... none of which are unusable in this condition. I think the owner is waiting for anything that is more than what the junker is offering. Like I've mentioned...

Well, if I recall a few MVS experts on here insist you don't need an alignment after only a strut job! :)

Sheesh, at $595... You need to run them like 8 years for them to be worth it... (assuming strut bearings last right years)... Wow!!!

All of this is what they call around here "ballah" status!!!

Always use Volvo coolant! There is a reason they have their own. If they were trying to just make money they would market their own auto trans fluid, brake fluid which they don't. It is a European formulation for European cars. Same goes for Japanese cars. The all in one coolants are for cheap asse...

I apologize for not reading all of the post but that really looks like oil. I would thing that either the engine is somehow leaking oil into the coolant system, or it's transmission fluid getting in through the rad. The thing about that is, if it's manual, there is NO connection to the transmission...

Why replaced your heater core when the black cap may stop the weeping? I don't know how old it is. Last time I checked it, there seemed to be coolant-colored oxidation around a few screws. And, probably the biggest reason of all is that rspi doesn't like when we play coolant roulette! You hav...
