Re: Volvo 850 Mechanic in Connecticut

First timing belt job (98 S70), 4hrs...

Second, (00 V70), 2.5hrs... (spent 40 minutes on the intake cam that kept slipping around...)

Pretty straightforward job.

Re: End of my wits... Sputter and stall

The car isn't throwing any faults that my cheap generic reader is picking up. At this point I have a car at best with $1600 and we can probably get $1K realistically. We are just getting tired if fiddling with it. Everyone made this ETM repair seem like a sure fire thing. Sorry to hear it man. Afte...

Success rate on home fixed ETB is about 20%

Get a new one or go Xemodex
Does the eBay ETM contactless repair kit really have a 1/5 success rate? I thought it was higher... Good to know!

Re: 1998 S70 Which Manual Transmission [gear] Oil to use?

I agree with abscate here. That ATF does not say it is GL-4 compatible (or even GL-5/GL-4 backwards compatible). I wouldn't put it in our transmissions... It'll either be too slick, not slick enough, or it'll introduce something that will cause wear.

Re: '94 850 Wagon - Mechanic Quote

For example, Our car was listed at $1200. We able to negotiate $850. The only stick 5-speed, MT for sale I'd seen in over six months around here. Plus... - Front end was completely shot (struts, control arms, inner, outer tie rods, subframe bushings, sway end links). ($650) - All fluids ($75) - Shoc...

Re: '94 850 Wagon - Mechanic Quote

Got some issues with my 850 NA Wagon. Took it down to a shop and got a quote. Want to know what y'all think. Current issues: - oil leak from pcv breather hose - starts and runs while cold. Won't start or drive if engine is hot. - blowers are strong and I can change direction, but absolutely freezin...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Now for the real test, are there any coupons left, and will they honor them  It was full! I didn’t grab it (didn’t want to pay whatever those guys wanted to charge me) but it was a cool find indeed! I should have pocketed it... lots of valuable service coupons if they would still take them! Yo...

Re: Mild Emergency: Car Starts Cold but not when Hot

An unmetered Air leak will kill your starting in cold weather. Chase down the splits, holes, and weak spots. That would have to be a pretty bad air leak thought, wouldn't it? P0455+ magic, no? I'd check out this sensor--the coolant fan temperature sensor The one time our car wouldn't start when hot...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

I love my Milwaukee drill and impact driver. The driver is a beast for its size (and just being a 1/4" hex). The mid-torque impact is on my list! The cam locker is definitely helpful for VVT engines. It makes it a lot easier to ensure the VVT hub is preloaded properly. I highly recommend it... I do...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

At 180k that's really smart. They get tired after 100k and will respond slower to changes in O2 content. The real danger is when they run the car lean and burn valves. I went to 140k and replaced them *adds another item to the list for this summer...* I know right? We've been geting a sporadic P013...
