Re: fuel smell... after fill up.
After I replaced the fuel pump in my '96 850, I had a gas smell when I filled up. I took the pump back out and discovered that I had not gotten the rubber seal properly in place around the top of the tank. There is a small lip that goes over the outside edge of the tank neck. I worked with it for ab...

Re: 96 Volvo 850 won't start after gas fillup, tank was clos
I had the same experience and mine was the fuel pump. I pulled into a gas station to fill up when I was really low on gas (low fuel light on). Filled up and then could not get it to start. Had to have it towed. Swapped fuel pumps and it started right up. No problems since. (I could hear the original...

Re: 1997 850 T5 Wagon cranks, but doesn't start
Common things to check for coolant leaks (before you jump to the conclusion that it is a head gasket problem): The plastic connection where the small hose hooks to the top corner of the plastic expansion tank cracks/breaks and starts leaking. (To see it, you have to wait until the engine warms up, t...

850 Fuel Pump - options - what did you do?
1996 850 - My original fuel pump gave out at 190k miles. I replaced it with one from the junkyard. That one lasted about 30k miles. I just put another junkyard pump in to get my car running and I'm considering ordering something new so that I have a pump I can rely on. Option 1: Order a genuine Volv...

Re: 850 driver's side outer tie rod end - reverse threaded?
Thank you for the replies. I just did not want to keep "muscling" it if I was going in the wrong direction.

Re: 850 driver's side outer tie rod end - reverse threaded?
The tie rod is already loose from the steering knuckle. I'm talking about the other end.

850 driver's side outer tie rod end - reverse threaded?
In replacing the driver's side outer tie rod end, are the jam nut and tie rod end reverse threaded? (Or is mine just stuck?)

Re: '96 850 R - Fuel Pump + MAF replace costs
headed to a new shop for repairs to my fuel pump and MAF. Both need to be replaced I'm curious. How do you know (or why do you think) they both need to be replaced? OBD2 codes? Another mechanic told you this? Is the engine hard to start? Does it run rough? I've never had to replace a MAF on either ...

Re: 95 850 - Low 'bass' resonance when braking
Just to commiserate, I'm having the same problem with my 1996 850 with 210,000 miles. Pads are down to about 1/4", so I ordered new pads and shims from FCP Groton. Will probably put them on in the next couple of week-ends. I've had the car since 1998 with 25,000 miles. Never had this problem be...
