Re: CAN bus reference?

Yesterday, I extracted all the scripts from VIDA like Steve did here . I've moved the 399 scripts that mention my model, mdl545yr2007 I believe it is, into a different folder. Now, these scripts are xml files which contain a lot of data that I'm still trying to figure out. For instance, this should ...

Re: CAN bus reference?

Thanks! I've already downloaded VIDA after reading this blog post . Unfortunately the guy who wrote the blog post didn't go very far before seemingly abandoning it, possibly due to crashing his car. He also went the route of dissecting the VIDA database. I've read waal70's blog posts regarding the C...

CAN bus reference?

Does anyone have any information on the CAN BUS used in the V50/P1? I'm working on my own infotainment system, ie a carputer. I know I can't be the first one to do so, not with commercial - and expensive - solutions available. I considered the MST-MOST upgrade for mp3 and smartphone integration, but...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

Today, I sent out for offers from junk yards to come pick up my 1996 850. I faced a repair bill of upward $1500 to keep it running and I had discovered a fair bit of rust on it that only promised even more work to be done on it. Before that, also today, I went to check out a 2007 V50 2.0D and decide...

Re: 850 1996 Power Window struggles

Yes, it's satisfying for sure. Although, I've reached the point where I'm considering to save up to buy another, newer, Volvo. Possibly a V50, although that isn't a proper Swedish Volvo, more like a Ford in disguise. Perhaps a 2.0 diesel V70 '08 or '09, although they are rather expensive in taxes he...

Re: 850 1996 Power Window struggles

The rear slide is fixed with a brass bracket, also on the manually winched doors on my 850. I installed the two front doors in the car yesterday and I'm happy to say that with a fair bit of lubrication the windows are opening and closing pretty quickly and without any apparent struggling. The auto d...

Re: Hosting 3D models of Volvo parts on MVS

Yes, I wouldn't like to print ABS either, I think that's better left to industrial injection molding. Instead of fussing too much with the initial layers you could print a raft for build plate adhesion. That won't give you a perfectly smooth underside of the object, but will give all of your layers ...

Re: Hosting 3D models of Volvo parts on MVS

I've been 3D printing for a couple of years now with PETG and PLA on what started out as an Ender 3 Pro, but which I have modified to work somewhat better and be able to print at higher temperatures than normal. My first project for the Volvo was new seat belt release buttons, all of mine had desint...

Re: 850 1996 Power Window struggles

Hi Neil, Thanks. I looked in VADIS and saw the front white nylon slider is held in place with a bracket, so I guess it's by design that that one won't move on the rail. I had the rear window guide out (actually it was loose, like everything else, when I bought the doors so had to screw it in myself)...

Re: Speedometer/odometer issue

Hey Bob.

The speedo/odometer gets the signal from the ABS module. Do you know if your ABS module has been resoldered? It can cause all kinds of problems when it starts to go bad.
