Re: Gunk in the oil dipstick tube
You can't clean it out, but should treat the symptoms just like you did. Actually, you can. The dipstick tube is removable and can be flushed  Whether it's needed or not, that's a different matter. I've cut a length of pipe foam insulation and wrapped it around the dipstick tube. It seems to ...

Re: 850 1996 water in cabin blower fan
I think I've sorted the water problem. The drains were fine, but there was a build-up of old composting leaves that allowed for water to seap through the rubber barrier between the shroud and the opening to the duct. Sorry, no pictures this time. Also managed to swap out the burned coolant fan and i...

Re: 850 1996 water in cabin blower fan
Thanks, Neil. I haven't been able to check the drains yet as the radiator fan decided to quit on me two days ago resulting in overheating and loss of 3 quarts of coolant. So I'm now sourcing a new Volvo ECT sensor and a used fan. It's about time for a bigger overhaul anyway, the right hand wiper arm...

850 1996 water in cabin blower fan
I replaced the cabin blower fan today even though I was a bit pressed for time. When I removed the old fan, I saw about 4-5 fl oz of water at the bottom of the white duct where the fan sits. The carpet on both sides is dry, and I haven't had any loss of coolant so I'm fairly certain it was only rain...

Re: Herman and Operation 30MPG
I'm still following this topic as fuel economy is always interesting.
However, my guess is you'll lose the money you save here and now by over-inflating your tires to the additional wear on them.
Short term saving might lead to a long term loss. Just saying

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)
My '96 850 cleared inspection today, so it's now street legal for another two years :D The inspector suggested the handbrake to be adjusted and more worryingly he found the rubber on the driver's side tie rod end had split. That rod end was replaced only two years ago and I've driven less than 10K k...

That's also a way of doing it
I seem to remember someone having 3D printed new release buttons and offered them for sale on this board. I can't remember who, though.

If it's only the red button that has a hole in it, then it can be replaced.

Might be able to find them cheaper than this, was just the first result from a google search.

Yes, Rattnalle in Denmark it was 92/95/98, then 98 was discontinued some 10 years ago I think. A couple of years back Shell then introduced their V-Power 99 octane ethanol mixture. To get back on track, OP may want to read the this blog post regarding whether to use premium or regular: https://www.e...
