Re: My CEL saga - any ideas/help appreciated Topic is solved

Yeah - that was a really good call by you - makes me wonder if dealer knew from the get go and just wanted to ring the register a bit.... Nah, that's 'manual' diagnostics/understanding at a level better described as electrical/systems engineering that your first line of 'basic ASE certified techs',...

Re: Electronic modules and thunderstorms

These newest vehicles are so complicated on the software/electronics side they practically need a full blown event logger (along the lines of what is built into modern desktop computer operating systems). So that techs can go back and see what exactly is triggering the window down. Otherwise it's so...

Re: Control arm - Is there a safe way to force it?

What I've done: The two large strut to knuckle bolts, remove the top one, loosen the bottom one but leave it in. With this you can swing top of the knuckle out/away from the car and more easily position the ball joint into the control arm while aligning the CV joint into the wheel bearing. You'll st...

Re: AGM battery on P2 models???

The charge rate/voltage required by AGM batteries is a little different than for standard lead acid. Hence why (better/more expensive) newer battery chargers will either say "for AGM" or have a switch to modify the charge rate characteristics/voltage for AGM. You can put an AGM into a vehicle that w...

Re: PCV R&R - Losing the battle to the dreaded hidden Intake bolt Topic is solved

Moving the power steering pump out of the way is not a big deal on these - maybe 5 minutes. Easier to unbolt/move it rather than trying to access the bolts in question with it in the way.

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky)

Not my car.. Sis' XC90. Brought the DIM back to life. Replaced board mounted voltage regulator, capacitor, inspected board for NFO/cracked solder joints: saw a couple that looked suspect and reworked them by hand with a fine pencil iron. It was probably the voltage regulator. Does anybody know.. on ...

Re: PCV R&R - Losing the battle to the dreaded hidden Intake bolt Topic is solved

I've decided to remove the t stat housing also and am considering replacing the whole housing because everything in one piece ( housing, sensor, tstat). On my second attempt I've come to that conclusion as well. The little 1/4" drive 10mm socket with a built in ball joint mentioned earlier doesn't ...

Re: WTF is up with my Radio

As far as the reverse sensor function, there may be a software component involved. If the used radio came off a vehicle that did not have the reverse sensors installed they may not work properly. This might be a downloadable package that is updated/installed at a dealer/VIDA. I seem to recall the 'p...

Re: What's the deal with people having difficulty getting into their new Audis?

I've decided the people having trouble opening their doors on these newer vehicles are the same types who can't figure out how to start a clothes washer/dryer in my friends condo building. When you slide the account 'debit card' into the slot on a machine and press a cycle button to start it, the di...

Re: Should I replace PCV Box 2006 V70 NA

It was my understanding that the oil trap/box on an '06 is an 'open' design: crankcase gasses enter and exit toward the top, oil droplets fall via gravity, collect and are returned to the oil pan via a port/hose exiting from the bottom of the box. Now what I'm not sure about is whether the banjo bol...
