Re: 2001 XC70 - Pumping out fuel tank

Changing the subject. You either have or had an XR4Ti Merkur? Only one? I've had a few. Most recent project turned one into a Ute. Search "Project XRBrati" for pics if you're interested. Back on topic... Cut the fuel line at the fuel rail, attached a hose to a gas tank. Found the fuel pum...

It's got over 200K miles, so probably not an ideal donor. Plus, it would be too much of a production to allow someone to remove it.

Re: 2001 XC70 - Pumping out fuel tank

Just realized you have a complication on am XC. The tank is a saddle tank so you have to get fuel out of both sides... Yes, I discovered that when I took a peek underneath the other day. That's what re-energized my search for a pump-out solution. Looks like I can try removing relay CMI12 (in the dr...

Re: 2001 XC70 - Pumping out fuel tank

Found this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GclQq7VpC08 Stopped by to visit the 2001 XC70 today. Fuse/relay boxes under the hood and in the rear trunk area - all relays are black and none look like the one shown in this video. Anyone know which one might be the fuel pump relay? Cutting the tank o...

Re: 2001 XC70 - Pumping out fuel tank

Perhaps we could use the jaws to cut the tank straps and drop the whole tank out. Then it would be easy enough to simply siphon out. I'll have to go investigate how accessible they are. I'm assuming the tank IS held in with some sort of straps, yes? Mostly unrelated, but does anyone know where the 2...

That's more the type of solution I'm looking for. Anyone have a schematic?

Well, lighting the car on fire probably violates a code ordinance or two as well, but that's what we'll be doing eventually. I'm looking for a slightly more elegant solution.

2001 XC70 - Pumping out fuel tank

I'm a volunteer at our local Fire Department and we've had a 200K+-mile 2001 XC70 that's been donated to drill on. The fuel tank is near full, so we need to pump it out. Any advise on the easiest way to do that? "Junkyard terrorist" tactics are encouraged, given that we'll be cutting the c...
