Re: 98 S70 T5M: Diagnosing Cruise Control

Not sure what I did, but I got CC to kinda work for a little while. Managed to maintain 45mph for a couple miles (with help). Had to keep tapping the gas pedal. I definitely have a vacuum leak somewhere. CC switch also seems to be kinda iffy. Does anyone know what the vacuum line routing is for the ...

Re: 1996 850R intermittent brake pulsation over bumps

It is more likely for your wheels to lock up when braking on a rough surface, because there is more rolling resistance. I know on my last trip through PA, every braking event set off ABS because the roads are nothing but potholes.

Re: 98 S70 T5M: Diagnosing Cruise Control

At first, check the electrical switches above brake and clutch pedals. I don't remember which contact of CC module they are connected to. CC module will not activate vacuum pump until it "see" pedals fully released. I believed I checked the right contacts, and the CC was seeing both pedals as fully...

Re: 98 S70 T5M: Diagnosing Cruise Control

So I need some input on this one. Based on the diagnostic manual, It sounds like the CC selector switch is bad. One question I have though is what voltage should I see when I activated the switches, since battery voltage seems to be the wrong answer? It also appears I have a small vacuum leak affect...

98 S70 T5M: Diagnosing Cruise Control

I have a 1000+ mi roadtrip coming up and would really like to have cruise control (CC) in one of my Volvos. After admitting defeat on the 99, I've started diagnosing the "simpler" vacuum operated 98. I am following the Volvo 850 service manual for 1995-96 that can be found uploaded all over the inte...

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

Thinking I'm going to need a parts car to swap the rear end out of. Everything back here is so rusty. Totally different from the front half.

That is aluminum and it's bent, so really not sure what can be done about it. I think most shops would refuse to weld it.

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

Update with pictures! Unfortunately no good news to report. Attempted to replace the badly rusted fuel filter. Of course the bracket bolt stripped out immediately. fuel_filter.jpg Spent hours and $40 in expensive drill bits trying to drill it out. Seriously, what in the Swedish steel is this thing m...

Re: 1999 S70 "AWD" Rescue Thread

Regarding pictures, definitely the emergency hood cable we've covered in the other thread, I'm also a sucker for a well waxed car, and just in general pictures really make a thread. There might not be something immediately that grabs me but in a few months I might have to do a repair you've covered...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Rear main seal is what I fear most - it would be the end of that car. Way too expensive to fix that. The turbo looked ok. If it is the RMS, best short term solution is ATP-205 or switch to 40 weight oil. And I say short term, but I switched to Mobil1 10w-40 HM over 2 years ago to prolong repairing ...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

Yesterday I finally got around to fixing some of the leaks on my 150k mile1998 V70 GLT. Replaced the rear cam seal (which was a snap), the pcv breather system (which was a pain), and both oil cooler lines (which somehow was way harder than the pcv breather and way more of an oily mess). That killed...
