Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

Well, an interesting day! I replaced the timing belt, tensioner, and idler. The belt looked in pretty good shape, until I bent it around the tensioner - it had crazing in the backbone - it also has been subject to some oiling over its life. The idler and the tensioner both had measurable wear into t...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

Very informative! This brings together several different sources in an easy to understand narrative. The CVVT video online shows the spring loaded exhaust hub, while other timing videos show very little. I was getting confused by everyone's assertion to pull the crank forward another 1/4 turn, then ...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

I look forward to reading it! I am also looking forward to getting my camshaft locking tool, so I can be more confident in my work! I don't want to take any chance bending or otherwise harming the valve train.

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

I went ahead and replaced the intake Camshaft Position Sensor, as I found the old one made no difference to the engine running condition when left unplugged. Initially, the system responded well to the new sensor, and overall the lumpy idle is lessened - it no longer feels like it wants to die at ea...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

This video helped me out when I did mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4uLvH151-c Yes, I have watched that one a few times, but am still confused by the need to turn the crankshaft 1/4 turn forward, then backing the whole thing up to re-align the timing marks. Their exhaust camshaft then needed...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

Thank you for the replies so far.

So, am I stuck until my camshaft locking tool comes in?

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

I don't understand the reason for turning the engine forward 1/4 turn then back again either, but it has been mentioned over and over on youtube and in various forums as the proper way to "unload" the CVVT hubs when changing the timing belt. To me, the hubs will reload the second the car s...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

Good evening all- Just as an update: I removed the front and top timing covers, as well as the camshaft position sensors and tone rings. I then turned the engine over by hand, and came up with more confusion than answers. First, the timing marks on the cam sprockets are on the trailing edge of a too...

Re: P0016 after cleaning CVVT Solenoids

I will take the covers off this weekend and check the timing marks. If the Intake CVVT hub is stuck, will that cause the incorrect cam signal?
