Re: SAS Delete Troubleshooting (96 850)

That code is probably sticky in the ECU from previous faults or there is an electrical fault it is detecting. SaS pumps air into the exhaust manifold during warmup , then shuts off until the next cold start cycle Tried sitting the car with battery DC for a couple minutes, code still came back on ig...

Re: SAS Delete Troubleshooting (96 850)

Interesting findings today.. this may be the final piece of the puzzle. Today; after many power cycles and codes cleared, I realized something.. ...the 0410 CEL code is coming on before I start the engine! Even with everything plugged in! The only things that run pre-start (that I know of) is a litt...

Re: SAS Delete Troubleshooting (96 850)

The solenoid needs to be in place. If you remove the valve, you need to plug the hole in the exhaust manifold, thread size......standby If I leave all the pump & tubing in place, do I need to plug the hole still? Or do I have to remove tubing and plug it for the SAS delete to work? I thought pluggi...

Re: SAS Delete Troubleshooting (96 850)

Jumped it down to the plug with a 10a fuse.. which it blew. That little motor can't take more than 10 amps, right? Besides that, no combination of plugging/unplugging from the relay has made a difference. I thought with all the original hardware in place, that the SAS manifold opening wouldn't need ...

Thank you for the diagram Abscate! There are two wires that come from the pump, a black and blue. SAS Delete Troubleshooting (96 850)

CEL (0410) comes on even after SAS delete solder on ECU, what could be causing this? It pains me there’s so few (visual) resources for the SAS system, even though it’s relatively ‘shallow’ in the engine bay, having a guide or diagram really helps out! And Roberts never done a video on removing or re...

I didnt have any issues after hammering my fan blade onto a new motor. I made sure the shaft was braced against a work bench. I hammered the fan onto the motor, not the motor into the blade. Depends on the sensitivity of your meter Disconnect the complete pack and measure the resistance, actual value, between 1-2 2-3 3-4 And see what you get. I think I have a nice enough meter, sure cost as much! On the 'auto' setting for resistance - 1-2 - no continuity 2-3 - 1.2 resistance 3-4 - no c...

Short Version: Jumped a 1-year-dead volvo on stale gas, it runs as good as expected; except for a concerning, low pitched whine from near the alternator and belts. Check canister J hoses first, jack the car on stands and trace the line from the Canister to the rollover valve near the rear passenger wheel- Gross evap leak means it’s really big and you won’t miss it. If it ain’t on the canister or the rollover valve, it may be some headache near your fuel pump- ...

If I'm not mistaken, there's a clever way to use Google Questionnaire's features to collect data from both inquiring buyers, and interested sellers independently, and (if not by Google itself, some free application) depending on what boxes they tick, and notify the two parties.

Sound Diagnosis [With sound file!] Hollow clunking on idle, low RPM Topic is solved

I've got some trouble with a hollow clunking sound, it seems to make itself known when I'm either easing off or pushing on the accelerator, almost always when reversing, always when turning the car off and sometimes when idling (regardless of clutch being in or out, breaks on or off, but eases off ...

How to Diagnose CV Joint, Clutch system? ['97 850]

I'm trying to cut down the price of my shopping list, so I'd like to make sure I'm not buying any 'extras' For instance, I'd like to know a good way to diagnose my CV Joints, so I could find out whether I have to drop $120 to replace them both, or $20 for a boot kit? Also, I'm going in deep to repla...

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850xs70]

If the '98 S70 is a N/A (non turbo) car it is the same engine and will bolt right up. The differences between the 850 and the 98 S/V series is cosmetic. Under the hood they are the same other than some fuse box refinements. Starting in '99 everything is dramatically different but the '98 will work ...

Re: Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850x850]

If you can get a look at the engine model number sticker you will have your answer. The GLT might actually have a low pressure turbo in 1997 and at that point I'm not sure if the engines are compatible or not. The NA engines have very high compression ratio and I think they lowered that for the LPT...

Blown Headgasket Engine Swap Compatability [850xs70]

Long story short: I was a neglectful college student, and my lovely '97 850 has finally put its foot down with a problem I can't anxiously ignore anymore. New shocks/struts totaling $600- on top of its already failing/and or dead engine mounts, torque mounts, main seal, sway bar, clutch plate.. etc...

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850] Topic is solved

If there are any good parts yards around maybe you can find a decent set of front struts. Still check the top strut mounts as they can be hard to see without removing the top washer. you are looking for cracking around the center bonded in metal sleeve that fits around the strut shaft. Im hoping to...

Re: Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850] Topic is solved

Can you record and post a video of the clanking? The fact it happens when the car is stationary is unlikely to be the struts contributing to this. IT could well be your engine mounts are failed. Check the top and lower torque mounts if they are failed they can allow the engine to vibrate metal on m...

I've been reading some other articles that suggest it has to do with the struts? I know my struts are shot, but would that be the case?

I've attached pictures of my struts

Sound Diagnosis, hollow clanking [Volvo 850] Topic is solved

Ok, I'm no car expert, and it's only by the skin of my teeth, borrowed tools from work and the help of this forum I've been able to keep my car (more or less) running. The sound is like a hollow clanking, that isn't erratic, but steady when it occurs, and can be gently felt up the steering column in...

1997 850 Sunroof Slider Assembly Replacement

Hello! Has anyone had experience replacing the slider assembly of the Sunroof? I'm struggling trying to figure out how to get the cables to reattach. I'm fixing my stuck sunroof, after taking off the glass I found the problem was a small broken arm within the plastic sliding assembly. Why they made ...

1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge: Resolution Topic is solved

All this nightmare: turns out it's a bad fuel pump / relay. I previously tested the fuel line to check if there was sufficient pressure, and I presumed that a li'l dribble paired with the sound of the motor turning on, was enough- but no, no it wasn't. This entire thing was the pump slowly dying on ...

Re: 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

Fully charged battery load test: 10.5 volts and dropped very quickly below 10 volts over the duration of the test (5-7 sec) The previous test was after one attempt to start (20ish sec on the ignition), under load was 8 volts. Everywhere I've read says it needs at least 9 volts to start the car, I'm ...

Re: 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

Battery load tester said a "BAD" 8 volts, but this wasn't off a full charge, I had previously put 20 sec attempt in the night before. Topping it off and trying again ASAP, in the meanwhile I'm working on opening up the spark plugs. Is 8 volts too low? I mean it's enough for the starter to crank, but...

Re: 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

I would treat for LMS, then drive the car to the auto parts store and ask them to analyze the charging system with their little gizmo. Don't take the employee's analysis too verbatim, like don't make a decision on the spot based on what they say, but their equipment can give pretty useful informati...

Re: 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

If it is still not turning over well enough, check that the connections to the battery are clean. Worse case scenario the cable(s) may be corroding, but start with the connections. Even if you get those clean you may have lingering LMS issues to deal with. Whenever I take the battery in and out, I'...

It's hard to pinpoint the problem from the description...it sounds like you have tried jump starting from another car and have tried recharging your old battery, neither of which has worked yet. Would it be possible to try jump starting again with better quality jumper cables? Maybe, but the fancy ...

Re: 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

You can't charge an automobile battery in 2 hours - that would take about 200 amps of current and would cook it. Its dead, Jim. See I know that was wrong, must be dead cells in there, but after reconditioning it overnight it's been charging at a normal rate & makes the starter crank with the force/...

[Resolved] 1996 850, Crank+No Start after battery recharge Topic is solved

To start, I've had a history of bad battery maintainence on my Volvo, and as a result probably hastened my current batteries decline. I now know I need to buy a new battery, but first, my car has to start to drive to the store. After a week of not driving my Volvo (Finals week for quarter at college...
