Re: upstream O2 sensor - is this coolant? - 01 V70XC
Ah good, thank you - many pictures I see out there must be of much younger sensors.

Re: Turbo/induction troubleshooting 2006 XC70
Clogged again... this time the cat is completely gone. Looks like inlet valve seals - get a huge cloud of smoke behind the car when I accelerate after using engine braking down longer hills now that the cat isn't disguising it anymore (if I coast in neutral not as much, so it seems to be responding ...

Re: 2001 V70XC, occasional no throttle but starts fine
Update (though still sort of "crossing fingers and hoping" rather than "this logically solves it") Transmission was starting to give occasional hard shifts so changed the fluid and at the same time I took the car keys from of my (very large) keyring-o-everything and put them on t...

upstream O2 sensor - is this coolant? - 01 V70XC
Just replaced the upstream O2 sensor on the 2001 V70XC (because of engine code). Pulled it out an am a little unsure of the look of the sensor - could just be "this is what they look like after 200k miles" or could be something wrong (though it doesn't seem to be "gunky" enough f...

Re: 2001 V70XC, occasional no throttle but starts fine
Did clean the inside the throttle body after some misfire/rough idle at start, but didn't clean the pots, so might try doing that. Never had any problems with throttle once driving - when it doesn't work it won't ever accelerate from idle. No limp home, no codes, no CEL. No DICE yet but have the Win...

Re: 2006 XC70 catalyst loose
That's the weird thing, everyone talks about broken honeycomb, but it is absolutely intact, just slipped out of the support material and is loose in the casing.

Re: 2006 XC70 catalyst loose
Ever since I acid washed it it stopped throwing catalyst efficiency codes, so it works just fine for emissions, just need to hold it in place so it doesn't destroy itself. My big concern with the screws is how well it would hold. On mine the front catalyst had been driven back about an inch onto the...

2001 V70XC, occasional no throttle but starts fine
Working on troubleshooting a occasional issue with a 2001 V70XC - sometimes it will start just fine but there will be no throttle response, it will just sit there idling. Turning off key and restarting will bring throttle response back (so far). When it happens the ventilation fan is not operating e...

2006 XC70 catalyst loose
I evidently waited too long to look into the reduced power on the 06, and while the hydrocholoric acid soak removed all the sufate buildup from the PCV oil dumped in the intake, the oxidation catalyst had been displaced backwards and evidently enough that the insulation material holding it in place ...

Re: Turbo/induction troubleshooting 2006 XC70
Final resolution - it was a clogged catalytic converter, but not coked up - it was a white ash. Evidently from burning oil and also a diesel thing sometimes. Front element in the cat was almost fully blocked. After trying to force it clean with hose pressure and soaking I saw in a diesel DPF post th...
