Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Yes, they are pretty convenient! I added a little duct tape to the end of the hose that fits into the cap to make the fit just right.

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

I used the filler cap. I ported a tube through the filler cap used with the volvo style funnel and cap combo as it conveniently has a hole already in it. I took readings initially from both the filler cap and dip stick tube and they were both the same.

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Pete, sorry for the late reply , I didn't realize there were more responses. Yes, I used part # 31325709 as mentioned above. I used a digital manometer in Kpa mode fitted to oil fill. I took the measurements before and immediately after replacing the banjo bolt.

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Just an update on this for informational purposes - I replaced the banjo bolt under the intake manifold with the udated one that has a check valve and it did lower the crankcase pressure. I was getting readings of -.05 Kpa at idle and up to 1.9 Kpa when under boost driving with the old banjo bolt. A...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Thanks for the info Pete! I laughed when I read your comment about not asking your wife to take on that task at the moment. When I did the glove test I rigged up a mirror and was able to do it myself.

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

VTL & a few others have posted about this before - glove testing at varying RPM’s & loads. I know he is a firm believer in replacing the expensive pipe that runs from the top of the breather box/oil trap back to the turbo. I personally have only done 4-5 of the PCV system’s & I've never replaced th...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Could there be a vacuum leak and have no codes? When you are accelerating maybe a cracked / loose hose or leak somewhere is bringing air into the intake manifold rather than removing it from the crankcase. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CPqbaSgcok - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcKw5ypGTy8 I...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

I've never heard of a "PCV Glove Test" under load, only familiar with the glove test on the oil fill at idle. Are you seeing any new oil leaks on the engine? If you are confident that you replaced the system correctly, I'd carry on as if it's repaired and only monitor for new leaks. I feel I comple...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Scroll down and see the PTC diagram. It shows a large and small vacuum line. I believe the small one was clogged on mine. It's been awhile. http://lakesidedp.com/uploadpics/pcv/ Mine is set up a little differently - there is the larger hose on top but nothing on the back of the PTC itself as in the...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

There is just one hose that goes directly to the top of the PTC and it is the hose from that long 90 degree hose assembly from the breather box. There are a couple of small vacuum lines that enter the turbo intake tube very near the PTC on their own nipples, but not connected to the PTC directly. A...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Do you mean the vacuum line is clear also? Yes, it is a brand new line. Are there other small or medium vacuum lines related to the PCV? I think it was around 2012 when I did the work. If so, remove push air through those to double check. There is just one hose that goes directly to the top of the ...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Yeah, I was hoping it was due to PTC after reading some posts about it but mine was completely clear, so that's why I was left scratching my head. Car seems to be running well at this point, so I guess I will do what you suggested with the dip stick and continue to monitor it. Do you mean the vacuu...

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

chrism wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2019 6:21 pm If the glove sucked inward real well at idle but then inflated when under load then it might just be that your engine has more blow-by than than the PCV system is capable of evacuating from the crankcase.
If this is the case then what is the best course of action?

Re: 2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

I'll keep on eye on the dipstick. I checked it a couple of times within the last few days and it may have moved up a millimeter if at all. I'm just not sure what the next step would be - I was hoping there was an item that I overlooked that was causing a blockage. Thanks!

thanks for the reply, but should it show definite positive pressure to the extent to inflate the glove - should I worry about this pressure pushing my cam seals out again when driving?

2002 volvo s60 2.4t PCV still blocked after service/replacement

Well, I could really use some helpful insight. I had a pretty bad front cam leak so before I replaced those seals I tackled the likely culprit, the pcv system (car has 160,000 and it looks like it was never replaced). I got the pcv kit and replaced all the hoses and fittings and oil box. I also clea...
