So I fixed it......turns out that little metal ring the the sensor retaining screw goes through is a ground. Cleaned it with emery cloth, chased the threads in both the hole and on the bolt, little dab of never seize and its all good!

The problem with your steering probably wasn't the pump or the rack. The new pump produced enough pressure to hurt the seals in the the rack.
