Re: P0420 code
You’re correct, I am a poor student. I agree that the cost is high for a 16 year old car. However I have invested money in the car and do a lot of the repairs myself. I can take it next week sometime and get a vacuum leak test. I tried starting fluid and even used a propane torch and couldn’t find a...

Blower motor relay?
I changed the blower motor in my car a couple years ago and things have been fine except for two things. The first is the motor never turns off except for when I take the key out. When I turn the fan speed to zero, it spins slowly and still blows air through the vents. If I have the engine off, but ...

Re: P0420 code
I apologize for the delay; school has been busy. I took my car to a couple local exhaust shops to have my car hooked up and tested. Both shops said the car needed a new cat as it was clogging and quoted about $1,500 for both as well. I can’t afford it now but it’s still cheaper than the dealer by ab...

Re: P0420 code
The front voltage seems to stay from 0.4-0.6 with an occasional dip or spike to lean or rich. The rear sensor stays steady most of the time but does jump from lean to rich more often than the front. I am going to go on a drive once I get home and will try to get a graph of the sensors' voltages. I w...

Re: P0420 code
It usually takes a 20-30 minute drive on the highway for it to confirm the code after I reset it.

Re: P0420 code
I attached a screenshot from the OBD2 reader I have. Shows the freeze frame for my code the car is showing. I do not recall anything out of the ordinary happening as it was highway speed. The idle boost pressure is -10.9 PSI, drops to 9ish when I push the throttle, then jumps up to about -11.7 PSI. ...

Re: fuel smell engine bay
I just found a similar problem on my 2001 S60. I found the o-rings around the injectors were leaking so I replaced them. The injectors were in bad condition, 213k on them, so I replaced them about a week later. There was still a fuel smell after I replaced the injectors. Turns out the damper was lea...

Re: 2001 2002 5-speed automatic transmission & problems - start here
So after reading these posts, it seems that the valve body is the fix to attempt. I’m considering doing just the solenoids or attempting to replace the valve body. My symptoms are: harsh reverse engagement, a delay into D with a harsh thud especially when warmed up, hard shifts, a disengagement with...

P0420 code
Hello all, 2001 S60 with 213k on it. I’ve had a nagging P0420 code for a couple years. It used to be on an off with no apparent cause such as a loss in performance, etc. The last couple months it has been on. I read a lot through various forums and found that there are a long list of reasons for thi...

Re: Boost control valve
I have a P0420 code for cat insufficiency. I’ve had the dealer say it’s the cat but I’ve read elsewhere it’s vacuum leaks most often. I do not have a leak so I began looking for sensors such as these for if they are bad. The MAP and purge valve are the only two sensors I have yet to replace. I also ...
