Re: 2001 c70 convertible roof problem

If you have a Vida/Dice, it will tell you where the problem is. Mine has 4 errors dealing with the rear locks and latches. An Indy shop in Houston did tell me that these cars often bend the frame during normal use and that throws the top out of whack. Also, the dealer told me the top needed to be co...

Re: Two front struts for 2000 C70?

Sorry, that was my error. The kit was from IPD, and was $424.95.

Re: Two front struts for 2000 C70?

I just did both fronts on my '99 C70 Cabrio. The whole kit from FCP was $424.50. That was Sachs struts, new everything down to the nuts and bolts. Old ones had no bump stops on the strut. Bought some spring compressors from local parts store. Took a total of 4 hours. Never used spring compressors be...

Re: Oil - What weight do you use? (Please forgive me for asking...)

I use Mobile 1 Full synth 10W30 in my 99 C70 LPT, and it is HOT here on south Texas. 155k miles and still a champ. I have also used same weight conventional in same car. I see NO difference in anything as far as mileage, smoothness, starting up cleanliness of internals that I can see etc. I do chang...

Re: Tie Rods and LCA Topic is solved

Story thus far: In addition to the wobble, the car when hitting a pothole or dip in the road would bottom out badly and really give me a scare. Previous owner put NEW Lemforder springs and KYB shocks thinking that would fix the issue, it did not. So, I purchased the Sachs strut kit from FCP which in...

Re: Tie Rods and LCA Topic is solved

Window in, not really that much work even for one person. Only issue was taking the rubber motor mounts off old regulator motor to transfer to the new one. Broke one, took it to the Indie for final adjustment and have the top fixed for whatever it costs. No sense in having a convertible unless it co...

Re: Tie Rods and LCA Topic is solved

I did forget to mention that at slow speeds there was a definite side to side wobble in the front end, I truly think I have a bent rim somewhere. I will use the spare tomorrow at all 4 corners and see if that changes anything. A month ago, my beloved Mercedes 300E was totaled in the driveway, that w...

Tie Rods and LCA Topic is solved

Hi all, trying to chase down a vibration/shimmy on my 99 C70 LPT cabrio. So far have replaced the upper engine stabilizer mount as there was little rubber bushing left and the lower transmission torque mount. Not much difference if any, but they are cheap and easy. Just had the tires rotated and bal...

Re: Safety of S70 vs newer cars

Err, Toyota, Ford, GM, Honda all have their own facilities as well. Mercedes had its own facility in 1973. https://hondanews.com/releases/honda-constructs-worlds-first-indoor-vehicle-to-vehicle-crash-test-facility?l=en-US&mode=print Also tests from all angles. https://www.torquenews.com/1083/volvo-v...

Re: Safety of S70 vs newer cars

Well, sorry guys, didn't mean to open a larger can of worms! Just thought the test was interesting. At least about newer cars using a bit more technology and perhaps different metals and build techniques to keep occupants safer. I am a single unmarried male of 54 years, and usually no one rides in m...
