Once I measured the level properly it was just fine, but I did a drain and fill anyways. It seemed to help a bit, so I'll drive for a while and do another. It wasn't bad in the first place (don't know if I made it sound like it was) it was just a tiny muffled thump feeling.

Correct on the fluid but you may need a valvebody. First change out all the fluid I'm sure hoping it's not the valvebody.
