Re: Question on timing post 98 cars

Ah . thanks. I wasn't thinking about the position sensors. Thanks. That clear things up.
Does that mean the ECM makes the system self adjusting in the case of minor variance? Is that the right way of thinking about it?

Question on timing post 98 cars

I have been reading a few posts recently about the timing being off by a tooth or so. It made me reason I don't fully understand how our 99 and later cars are timed. In some brands of cars with distributors, you could adjust the timing with a timing light and rotate the distributor until you had the...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

. So I stuck a rare earth magnet inside my glove this is Huge ! I had a few false starts with this idea as I was trying to hot melt glue or tape the magnets to some stick or rubber hose but it wasn't working. I then started thinking of some way I could attach it to my glove so I could just use my f...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today? (now Sticky!!)

This weekend I tackled an AC clutch re-shim on my 1999 s70. I had the classic symptoms of AC being cold for a few moments and then it would get warm. I measured the gap and it was greater than my larger gauge which was .866 mm. The job wasn't too bad. I basically followed many of the online videos f...

Re: When it's time to move on (and what did you buy?) Topic is solved

The 2006 model used a traditional water pump (belt driven) and for the 2006 model, the prices of water pumps is totally reasonable. (Hepu brand around $50) In 2007 they went to an electric water pump and the prices went nuts. They went to an electronic water pump so that the belt driven pump wouldn'...

Re: Mineral based oil or Synthetic?

BTW. For those people who read this thread and want to try the 100% synthetic Redline, make sure you buy their High Performance line. They recently introduced a line called Professional Series and it definitely is formulated differently than the High Performance line. It states "FULL SYNTHETIC -- OE...

Ah yes.. mileage. Great if you can take it. I thought you were making a joke that all s70 manuals were valued at $55K for donation purposes.

Tell us more about how old volvos help with writing off $55k in taxes. That sounds like something we'd all like to know. :-)

Re: Parts to pull off a 98 non-turbo wagon for a 2000 S70 turbo Topic is solved

I don't believe the axles are the same. At least they weren't between a 98 manual s70 and my 99 manual s70.

the 98 used the big nut at the end of the axle. My 99 used the a bolt. Totally different. That was true on manuals at least.
