Re: And time to replace the CV axles.... options?
A few months ?? Im going to catch holy hell for this but.. I would pull the boots back, inject in grease, wrap them in plastic and tape, and drive it for the few months left and then move on. Bahahahhaa!! That's my kind of fix!! I seriously thought (am thinking) about that, maybe even just see what...

Re: And time to replace the CV axles.... options?
Thanks all for the replies! So the boots are ripped up pretty good. I think the joints are past the point of salvaging. That's why I was curious about rebuilding them. Saving a few $$ isn't the main concern if I can have fun rebuilding. What's Erie? Never heard of them. Got a few salvage yards in th...

And time to replace the CV axles.... options?
So the last couple months the S60 has been saying click click click. Usually just turning, but it seems to be getting worse. Time to do some work so I don't get stranded... again! Amazon axles are $120 for the pair. http://a.co/iP4GEgO and http://a.co/34BQLYb I'm guessing these are Chinese, made wit...

Re: Voltage regulator removal on vehicle
To dave22r: How many miles were on your alternator? I think it has 175k on it? Somewhere in that ballpark. The car has been abused and has a questionable background so I'm never surprised when something new breaks. I'm having fun with the car though! So after the battery charged for a bit, all is g...

Re: Voltage regulator removal on vehicle
Had no idea what engine you are working on because I use mobile web version and it doesn't show your full handle. Glad you got it out and swapped over. It's all good. I mentioned that more for future generations reading this and absolutely not to rub that in your face! So everything is all buttoned...

Re: Voltage regulator removal on vehicle
Finally got the cover lose enough that I could access the 3 screws that hold the VR on. Easy after that. The tool I mentioned in the original post was the winner. As far as getting long extensions in there, no wat that would have happened. The intake manifold may be different in na cars. There's no ...

Re: Voltage regulator removal on vehicle
I did this on wife"s 2.4T (XC70 2002). and I recall using really long 1/4 inch extensions snaked under the intake. I used an 85 piece Stanley socket set that I have added a few "trick" pieces to from my old Stanley set. I'll have a look in the morning. I remember thinking the angles ...

Re: Voltage regulator removal on vehicle
I hope the tool works. If not the alternator is coming out I guess. Yeah I learned the lesson to step away over the years. You make stupid decisions... One more word of wisdom- even if you rig something to get the screw out, have a plan to get it back in. Degree of difficulty is the same, just rever...
