Yeah could be what is described as the PNP switch- the contacts become corroded. When you start the car ( crank the engine) there won't be a response from the starter. Also make sure all the ground connections from the battery are clean and connected.sometimes also, the starter solenoid gets corrode...

One other thought- if the transmission has been taken out at any time was the timing ring installed correctly? The engine will run even if it's off timing by a few teeth but roughly. These engines are pretty tough.

Check spark- test coil- all mundane things make sure distributor is clean- and check rotor.
