I'm not familiar with the 2008, but the OEM ball joints on many previous S80 models have a Torx socket in the end of the ball joint's stud. Use a long Torx bit and a box wrench to remove the nut and the knuckle should be free. It's easy to miss unless you have the vehicle on a lift.
