Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
Today I pulled the old pump and filter, installed a new pump and filter, filled the Haldex with OEM Volvo fluid, reassembled the flange, prop shaft, various exhaust components, and... well, with all four wheels still up off the garage floor, I started the engine, put the tranny in gear, and ALL four...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
Forums are invaluable, generally speaking. My only aggravation is when I read through page after page of a thread and in the end the original poster never reveals what his/her resolution was... so IF I find a solution in my own case, I want to make sure other readers can benefit if possible. Nothing...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
If anybody is having as much difficulty as I did in breaking the prop shaft loose from the rear flange, take the great advice I read quite a while ago: Air Chisel. It took me a week to locate one, but after many hours of trying other methods with zero success, an air chisel broke it loose in about t...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
Just to update, today I was told by a local Volvo mechanic to put a bolt in one of the two non-threaded holes in the back of the flange, and pound on it to push the shaft forward and out. I did this, and rotated the shaft to access the "other" hole, inserted bolt, pounded, sprayed penetrat...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
I believe I understand the chisel procedure you describe. I also read the post from Jimmy57 and I get that, but as you said earlier: "The shaft moves inside the viscous coupler, so it might not work using chains to pull the shaft." Unless I am missing something here, my attempt to loosen t...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
"I'm considering a 12 inch chisel and 3lb hammer"... I am trying to imagine exactly what you mean, and I'm drawing a blank here... Please describe the exact procedure with the tools mentioned, because I am lost. From what I can tell, dynamite won't budge this shaft. P.S. Do I sound a littl...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
Okay, I wrapped a small chain around the end of the prop shaft, with a good purchase on it, and went crazy with my large slide hammer. Zero movement. Firstly, I AM correct in assuming the front end of the shaft does NOT need to be detached in order for there to be enough movement where the rear will...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
I just do not see how a bolt can be inserted from the back of the flange then tightened inward to push the shaft out. There is no room for that, as far as I can tell. Last night I soaked the whole area with a high quality penetrating lubricant, and this morning I pounded on the shaft as hard as I co...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
I did totally loosen up the center carrier, and I had watched Robert's YouTube video earlier in the day. Problem is, he doesn't really explain how he got the rear of the prop shaft separated from the flange. I suspect this is simply because it was not stuck as hard as mine is... I do understand that...

Re: To VIDA or not to VIDA, that is the question...
Well my plan is to buy a pump as a first step toward regaining AWD, so I lowered the exhaust, removed the six allen bolts, and no matter how hard I've tried, I cannot get the prop shaft to let loose from the "flange" (if that's the correct term)... I have read at least twenty posts on thre...
