Many thanks for your input. Car has 110,000 mls. on the clock. Temporary solution has been to pull over and switch the engine off and on again. This ties in with an ignition switch fault.

My indicators (direction signal) lights and headlights have begun to go dead in mid journey. It is an intermittent fault.
