1) thinking the existing line was bad. Not so.

2) even if the old line was bad, swapping it out is way, way above my skill level.

Of course I managed to lose the crush washers for my PVC Banjo bolts.
I have a couple of other crush washers which have the same ID but are a bit wider in the ring - about 3 mm or so.

Are these safe to use with PVC system - particularly with the banjo bolt which screws in to the intake ...

I had not considered the spring seat at the lower end of the strut giving way - this makes a lot of sense to my mind.

I'll pull the tire to get a better look this weekend.

I concur about the "smoke" probably being dust kicked up by the force of the seat giving way.

I hopped in, started my 2004 XC70 and started to pull forward. Hadn't gone more than 2 feet when there was a loud "bang" from the driver's front. The driver's front corner immediately dropped a few inches and stayed there. A bit of smoke or the like then appeared to come ...
