Re: 96 850R no fuel/no spark

Check the spark plugs... Are they wet? Are they in spec? Brand new oem plugs, and not wet. Remove the fuel line at the engine and see if you can get fuel flow. Check that the pump runs by sound. If no flow and the pump seems to be running, you have crud in fuel lines or filters. Sitting for years w...

96 850R no fuel/no spark

Picked up a 1996 850R that had been sitting for a couple of years after the PO ran into issues with non-start condition. Found that the wires to the Fuel Injection Relay by the fan shroud were disintegrating into the connector so I pulled them out of the plastic and ran the female ends straight to t...

Re: 850R No Spark

Main fuel injection relay on fan shroud...the grey one....check it's connections too. The idle air control valve is humming, which I thought was the sign that the relay was working in some capacity. Granted the IAC hums any time the battery is hooked up and not only when the key is in any specific ...

Re: 850R No Spark

While I had the multimeter out, I checked voltage to the fuel pump and it is getting battery voltage when it is supposed to prime so I can safely say the fuel pump is dead. What I can't figure out is when the key is in the accessory position the harness connection to the ignition coil is also showin...

Re: 850R No Spark

OK cool spark plugs makes sense, cam sensor sounds good, crank sensor probably good, I get it there thanks. But is there spark, did you check for visible spark? You said earlier it cranks fine with good compression so I'm assuming the earlier statement is true. So I assume you mean it cranks but do...

Re: 850R No Spark

Sorry to beat a dead horse but no spark as in zero spark, ever, plugs don't give a spark to the block right? Just confused by why you changed the plugs for a no-spark, want to make sure I am on the same page. When you say you "checked cam sensor and crank sensor" does that mean swapped in...

Re: 850R No Spark

If there is: 1) No sound at the pump when ignition is turned to II 2) No fuel pressure at the Schraeder valve at the injector line. 3) You are certain the fuel pump fuse is good 4) The fuel pump relay is 100% good Then it is likely as Misha said, it is either the fuel pump has failed or it is not g...

scot850 wrote: 01 May 2022, 09:15 Did you swap the fuel pump relay? Do hear the pump whirr at all when you switch the key on in the ignition?

Neil.
Yes, swapped the relay itself but the pump is not priming. No sound in the accessory position.

Re: 850R No Spark

Does it crank? Are you getting fuel? I guess yes, just asking. And I guess you have an US model, so no anti theft circuit that could screw things up? Yes it cranks, turns over freely with compression. No, there is zero pressure at the rail but I have mainly just assumed that given the car has sat f...

Re: 850R No Spark

My 850 once decided it'd be hilarious to have it's main fuel system relay not work. It's the big grey one in the top radiator shroud. I replaced it with a new Volvo part (after I figured it out - to be safe) and the problem went away pretty much forever. Here's my original solution post: "Actu...
