Is there a good way remove the "Cover Plate" (cabin intake grille) to clean out any accumulated chaff where the windscreen wiper mechanism is on a 740?
I cannot see how this can be done without damaging the Cover Plate.
Any experiences to share?
Thanks, and have a great day.

Re: 1990 B230F: Original Head Gasket Question
Thanks for posting, 93Regina
Was the original gasket used back when the 1990 engines were assembled the same as today's items? Gaskets are known to be updated/revised with better items as time moves on.
Would hate to assume and get bitten...

1990 B230F: Original Head Gasket Question
Greetings!
Looking for some insight into what type of head gasket might be lurking in an original 1990 B230F.
This engine is 30 years old and has never been rebuilt; and I don't want to wait for a corrosion-caused head gasket leakage mishap to visit me unawares. I prefer to take work like head ...

More good ideas, lummert... Here's a possible link of interest in your figuring:

I thought they had a similar setup for the distributor hole, too; but I must've been mistaken.

Re: B230F "Proper" Crankase Ventilation Retrofit
Are your seals "Genuine Viton"?
Are virtually any of our original seals "Genuine Viton"?! If it rots, it's not; and that makes a difference in places like this drainback hose where a rotten part can mandate something like an oil pan removal operation for refitting...

@93Regina: Thanks for dropping by! No rebuild necessary -- all is well within operational spec at this end

Re: B230F "Proper" Crankase Ventilation Retrofit
Thank you, lummert, for your great input! Awesome insights... Also, sorry it took a few days to get back; but "life happens."
I've been figuring something out using a remote catch bottle which might allow me to get that wretched drainback hose out of the crankcase for good. That's near the center ...

B230F "Proper" Crankase Ventilation Retrofit
Greetings.
In a nutshell: 1990 B230F; rotting drainback hose and periodic crankcase ventilation system maintenance time. Quite thoroughly finished with this particular system, which seems to have been designed by the Devil himself.
Want to pull the drainback tube once and for all, cap off and seal ...

@jimmy57:
Thanks for that bit of historical info. I was wondering a while back if a bit of roofing tar on the tubing loop might work: Seems like a similar fix was done with affixed weights...
Pentosin looks like a fantastic product! Found the spec's here:

Can't give specifics from experience, but you can visit the Wayback Machine and grab the Mitchell wiring diagrams (and some other relevant docs) for the '91 740 here:
