Re: doing a PCV replacement

Another question. My 2004 V70 with 110K. The PCV oil trap was replace at Volvo dealer around 2013. Don't know if they addressed the banjo bolt. Anyway, should I replace the banjo bolt? I was scratching my head with the same question when I purchased my volvo in April 2018. :?: Since I was tracing d...

Re: Thud when pressing accelerator

Just getting it warmed up from idling and manually shifting a few times in the driveway is only good for a COLD reading. To read it HOT you have to drive it through all 5 gears up to highway speed with a few stop and gos for ~30min. Your fluid appears higher than average. Read the ATF where it's thi...

abscate,
Now you are scaring me. When abscate said "bottom ride side of the AT facing the engine", I am not even sure which square metal pan that is. Is he speaking of leaning towards the drivers side if the car?

Re: Crush washer?

The large ATF drain plug is on the bottom right side of the AT facing the engine. If you don't have a 24mm wrench then a 15/16" will work. The crush washer is same size for both engine and AT drain plug. The ATF needs to fully warmed up driving via all gears before the drain. You'll drain ~3.5 quart...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

I've gone by the theory to always replace seals when throwing on axles.

I'll inspect the seals when I pull the axles. If they appear in good shape then I won't pull them nor push them in further.

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

No, but 2-4 oz will leak out. Use 2 seals, one may not hold for long if the original seal started to leak. Just push the first one as deep as you can and then install the other one. Original seals aren't leaking yet. Should I push in the originals and follow with the new matching Corteco seals? Usi...

Re: 2004 S60 headlight glass

I got 2004 S60 glass headlights I pulled for $25 each. I don't care for the plastic lens on my 2007 XC70 so I'll try swapping them. The plastic lens are glued so I'll need to toss them in oven.

Re: Crush washer?

On a serious note, I found a bunch of old copper crush washers from my Saab days. Wouldn't they make a better seal than aluminum? If they're the correct size you can copper or aluminum washers on the oil and AT sumps. The differential gears and Haldex take the same size washer but requiring less to...

Re: Lower control arm and CV boot, should I bother?

Does the ATF sump need to be drained when replacing the seals? Should I pull the seals with a universal seal puller or use the tip of a pry bar?

Got the 4 boot kits and 2 seals for the front axles delivered today. I'll rebuild them within the next 2 weeks.
