Thanks for all the input on this issue. I'm pretty sure it's the turbo since it is engine related, not drive train. I'm going to pull the turbo and redo the gaskets and make sure the diaphragms are in good shape on the controls. Thanks to everyone and I'll let you know how it goes.

It sounds like the likely culprit is the turbo and I should pull it and have a look at the gaskets. Just a question, do you think the sound is the waste gate cycling open and closed at that RPM

It's an automatic and it happens at any speed once I get near 2100 RPM. It's a grrrr sound that changes to an oscillating grrrr between 2100 and about 2300. If I boot it before it reaches 2100 and it shifts so it jumps to above 2300 it doesn't wobble until if drops back to between those RPMs. And th...

Just another thought. If it was a turbo leak you'd think it would happen even when it's not in gear.

In park revving the engine it doesn't make the noise. Just when accelerating in drive. Also I removed the driveshaft to the rear wheels thinking it might be one of these components and there was no change so I put if back in. Not sure what you mean. The bearing on the angle gear where the drive shaft to the rear wheels connects seems to be fine. The noise seems to be ahead of the firewall and a little to the left but it's hard to tell.
