Re: Thoughts on this leak? with photo!

cn90... good thought, the oil line sits right above this, but I am quite sure it is transmission fluid. I do wish it was the turbo! Thanks

Re: Thoughts on this leak? with photo!

Thanks, I appreciate the thoughts! I agree that it looks motor oil-ish in the photos, but the dipsticks tell a different tale. I put about 100 miles on the car working towards getting past the "not ready" to inspect OBD II message that the is required in this area of NC to pass inspection. Accomplis...

Re: Thoughts on this leak? with photo!

Despite my hopeful prognostications... changing out the axle seal had 0 impact on the leak, so I will be pulling the transmission. It seems like there are two places it could be leaking from, the torque converter seal at the transmission or the torque converter itself. I suppose either could have be...

Re: Thoughts on this leak? with photo!

It does appear first above the axle at the engine/transmission connection where the flywheel can be seen. This car is FWD only. My theory on not being the torque converter (read, "man I hope I don't have to drop the transmission...",) is that the leak does not start until the car is in gear, where t...

Thoughts on this leak? with photo!

I am working my way towards finishing up the rebuild on my "free" 2003 S60... up and running but dealing with a variety of issues not necessary associated (but are they...) with the rebuild. History, car came to me with engine disassembled, I rebuilt and reinstalled the motor. I did replace the main...

Re: Cam bearing wear, would you reassemble?

Resurrecting this thread to provide an update and to say "thanks!" for the guidance. After the machine shop did their thing, I reassembled the junkyard head using the valves and camshafts it came with, renewing the valve seals. Installed the head... etc. etc. and now how have a running and driving v...

Re: Cam bearing wear, would you reassemble?

Blackbart- Cam swaps seem to be pretty widely done (turbo to N/A, vice versa, and variable to fixed head etc.) and I have not heard of any issues so the machining on these must be consistent. Can't quite wrap my head around why the line boring would not be either, in my case there were 2 apparent be...

Re: Cam bearing wear, would you reassemble?

Update... Thanks again for the guidance. I pulled a head out of a junkyard car this weekend and dropped it off at the machine shop today for cleaning, pressure testing and the block/head interface dressed as needed. Lessons learned... Harbor Freight 3/8" extensions are good for somethings, but not f...

Re: Solid Lifter Valve Adjustment Spreadsheet

Jimmy's post is the one that I cribbed the methodology from, just made it a bit more automated. I did confirm the clearance tolerances with another source. Great ideas on the spreadsheet development! The hardest part will still be reading the size on the bottom of the tappet, seems what ever they ar...

Re: Cam bearing wear, would you reassemble?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Superherman. I confess that I am going to chicken out on reinstalling this head for fear that I would get the same timing jump as before. My working hypothesis is that the unmatched parts are so out of tolerance that there is not good lubrication at two bearings, thes...
