Re: 105,000 mile service

This is an important time in the life of your car. The dealer is correct that the timing belt (1), should be changed as well as its associated components: idler, tensioner and water pump. The dealer isn't the only one capable of providing this service. A local independent can also do it and often fo...

Re: Cylinder #2 low compression - Guidance?

Holding the piston at TDC is ludicrous.
Adding air pressure with the piston at the bottom of the power stroke is reasonable.
Listen for air escaping out of the intake, exhaust or the oil fill. You'll likely find you have a burned valve.

More flow means less filtration, plain and simple. The trick with the K&N is to NOT over service it. The dirtier it gets, the better it works. The more the obstruction the better the filtration.
Buy a paper filter and tap it out every once in a while.

Rarely does the tensioner fail, just the pulley. Some of or vendors don't sell just the pulley. I used a Taurus idler pulley with a little modification. You may find the appropriate pulley locally at a much lower cost than the tensioner assembly complete.

Feel the carpet and dab with a paper towel to see what has dripped down, you're likely to find something.

Re: 1983 240 Overdrive

Most folks don't need to disengage the overdrive unless they're towing or doing extreme hill climb. Common failures are relay, switch, solenoid and wiring under the car. You need a working solenoid or a by pass for overdrive to work. The solenoid has only two bolts. The solenoid is $80, IPD sells a ...

Some radiator shops can replace the tank gasket, provided that the tank and core is in good shape. The stop leak you chose uses internal pressure to plug the leak. The silver flaky stuff doesn't harden like glue, it just piles upon itself from the inside until the leak stops. Pressure holds it in pl...
