Re: Marco's 2003 V70 T5 journey Topic is solved
The next thing I am still unhappy with is the slight surging or bunnyhopping I get from time to time. This has improved a lot since the new BCM was fitted and the speed signals have been restored, but it is still present. Going through some receipts in the glovebox, it seems surging is something tha...

Thanks for the post and pictures. I use my old fashioned strap wrench. Even with the oil filter housing almost completely surrounded by the oil pans contours I can get 15º nudges using it. One word. Aaaaaaargh!
Anyway, very disappointed as the gamble of replacing a very suspect looking BCM has not paid off.

Hi all. I’ve been absent from the forum for a couple of years in the Volvoless wilderness. I’ve recently been reading topics on the XC90 as I was sure I was going to buy one. I did however buy a 2002 V70 T5 in a lovely electric blue colour. Naturally it comes with a few faults the most vexing of whi...

2001 V70XC Fuel filler pipe leaking
I have been having a look at a friend's XC which is leaking fuel onto the forecourt when filling up. I have found the leak, it is where the hard hose joins the flexi section before the tank. The problem is, it is near invisible because of the AWD subframe etc. Can you remove the whole filler pipe as...

2002 V70XC rough idle and occasional stalling. MAF?
Hi all, I am hoping a knowledgeable P2 expert can help me as I am P80 owner and have never worked on the newer cars. My friend's V70XC which has a build date of Aug 2001 has an idle/stall issue. I went to check it out and thought immediately 2001 V70= ETM problem. However it appears to be a 2002 mod...

I just went to a friend's house to look at his 2001 V70XC. He complained that it stalls when idling. I got one code off the computer, post cat fuel trim too rich. I suspect this is a result of the underlying problem, not the cause. The car drives great, no surging, but occasionally at idle it stumbl...

1996 850R boost problem diagnosed and solved!
First, a little background. Late last year i did a stage zero tune-up on my 850R. The results were disappointing. Mpg got worse, and boost was abysmal. I got myself a mityvac for my birthday and decided to diagnose the wastegate first up. The actuator seems OK, moves freely, does not leak down etc. ...

I'd say idler pulley. I can't see any runout in the cam pulleys. The noise is very similar to the one I had on a previous 850 and it was the idler. In fact after timing belt jobs on two of these engines, it's the only part I have ever found to be worn out upon removal.

850R - rides 17mm lower on the left side
Hi guys, I have had my R for 6 months now, Volvo number 4 for me and I am slowly getting it back to stage 0. I have done all the filters, plugs, leads, cap, rotor, front O2 etc and all OEM. I do have one issue I'm putting off and that is the car rides 17mm lower on the left side than the right. Bear...

Re: Tired of bad bad bad vibrations.
Vibration under acceleration is more likely to be the inner joint. If you can't get the passenger side axle out of the trans, then I fear you will be stuck with the vibration.

Mike, I'd blame the springs for that. I used Bilstein tc on the rear of my wagon and found them plush to the point of being too soft.

My T5 did this. Nothing wrong with it, but if the pcv is not PERFECT and/ or you drive short distances, the dipstick tube gets gunked up. Increase your oil change frequency, and go for a long drive every now and then!

I think a bad wastegate diaphragm is more likely to lead to boost spikes and/or overboost? Double check ALL turbo hoses, vac lines etc and their routing. When you say "stutter" do you mean the boost is fluctuating, or is the engine actually stuttering like a misfire or bad surge?

If you have done all that other work to it getting the evap, brakes, suspension, and etm sorted, it may be worth a used engine (assuming the body and interior are good) otherwise for me the only models I would bother with serious engine work on are the special ones like 850R, T5R, V70R and then only...

Oh, if it's the ones I'm thinking of, you insert one side of the T in the hole on the back of the rubber strip, and then you stretch the rubber to pop the other side of the T in. It's quite easy once you have a rhythm. Does that make sense? If not I'll try and get a picture of how I do it.

Clutch packs do wear with miles, in cases where the trans has been overheated the linings of the clutch discs can break down. If there are dark non-metallic particles in the fluid this could be friction material. In a powerful car with worn clutch packs, slippage can occur. I'm not suggesting that y...

Re: anyone with live data scan tool?
Thanks, I had suspected a faulty TCV in the beginning, but I have no way to test it. There is only one other car like mine that I have ever seen in our town of 45,000 so borrowing one is out of the question. I think the CBV might be ok because I can't hear any fluttering like I could on my 850 when ...

Re: anyone with live data scan tool?
well I just hooked up my boost gauge. It shows 18.5 in hg at idle which is pretty darn good in my book. I took the car for a drive, and my suspicions were confirmed, almost zero boost at part throttle and barely 8psi at WOT 6k rpm. I then tightened the wastegate rod 2 full turns (on a RHD model this...

check for any codes, as an O2 sensor or MAF problem will cause the ECU to default to approx 5psi max boost. Also do the usual check for any split or incorrectly routed vac hoses, intercooler hoses etc. Check it all!

It all depends on who maintained the donor car. At 120,000miles it could be stuffed or it could have another 100,000 in it. If you love the car rebuild the turbo. If you're brave, do it yourself. There are one or two step by step tutorials on how to do it and a rebuild kit is about $55 from ebay.

It sounds like the filter is plugged and pump is cavitating. It takes a bit for the settled debris to be picked up and block filter again. Trans has to be opened to get to filter. Something happened to create the debris. The LPR solenoid would default to high pressure if it is bad as it is a leak t...

FCP timing belt kit OEM quality?
Does anyone know if the timing belt kit listed by FCP for $199 is any good? It does specifically say the belt is Continental but what brand are the tensioner and idler etc?
Also, looked on IPD today and they changed their website! Takes me 4 times as long to find anything now!
