Re: Problem with Aftermarket Control Arms.
I agree, and the rubber in the bushings is the same material that they make bicycle tires out of. The Volvo hardware is strangely reminiscent of fine jewelry!

Re: Problem with Aftermarket Control Arms.
New parts arrived today, nice cast aluminum control arms made in Sweden. Ball joints from Germany in Volvo boxes.......this is where quality parts should come from! I was hoping to get at least a couple years out of the Dorman but it died this weekend! 6 months old. New Volvo one is on order and another filter and bottle of fluid.

Re: AOD/ DEM quit today
Well I think I definitively determined the problem. I put 12 volts to the pump and no life in either direction. That Dorman pump lasted 6 months. I'll order a new Volvo one today and look forward to another day lying under the car
Might as well change the fluid and filter again too.

Re: Clunk when cold engaging drive
I had that problem, hard clunk going into drive or reverse from park cold or hot. Changed all the motor mounts and top mount with OEM, didn’t solve the problem, changed the B-4 servo also. Problem solved when I did a Transgo shift kit and rebuilt the linear solenoids, now it’s sooooo gentle going in...

AOD/ DEM quit today
I was out today in the deep snow and got stuck this morning in something that shouldn't have gotten me stuck in. Trying to get unstuck revealed that my rear wheels weren't receiving power. I just installed OEM Volvo XC90 seats in my car......the difference is amazing. I'd say get a set of OEM struts from the wreckers, white label, and a new set of OEM seats, they're about 40 bucks, and find some good OEM links. That's funny! We have a Subaru Outback and my XC70. The Subaru is a bigger car but probably lighter. Both have a 2.5l engine. The Volvo I would say has more useable space and is more comfortable and we have two big dogs that prefer the lower loading deck of the Volvo. The Subaru has less power but g...

I always keep on the lookout for Volvo OEM end links in good condition in the auto wreckers also. I would be more concerned if it was wet with trans fluid, the splined end goes into a dry female spline in the bottom of the trans, as does the drivers side. Re: Angle gear and collar opinions sought '07 XC70
That Bevel Gear actually shows no signs of wear, the collar sleeve obviously has a little bit starting. Usually the BG will have a shark tooth on the end of the splines where the collar doesn't make contact but yours are nice and flat so that's good. I would change the oil and throw it back together...

The flange seal should be fine. It should only take you an hour to get the BG out and then you can really get all the fluid out and it's nice to know the condition of the splines with a new car. I forgot to add that you will lose some fluid when the flange is pulled, you may elect to not change the seal behind the flange, yours looks pretty clean and dry and it doesn't hold any pressure. Might be better off to not disturb it.

I'm going to look into the thread about changing out the 4C struts and see if that's a viable option. Can't really justify replacing $2K worth of shocks and struts. Maybe I should just forget about...

Yes, here they call it rebuilt if it was written off, deemed salvage, and then repaired and recertified, thus rebuilt status. I estimated the vehicle would have been worth at least $7K when it was "written off". The new owner put less than 5000 kms on it in two and a half years. The parts on the car...

Thanks, I think I mentioned that I know how much they cost. I was more interested in what 4C service required meant and the handling vagaries that that message might cause. I'm not entirely convinced that the struts need to be replaced when that message is posted.

I suppose you could try to "shim" it to center the bearing for the purposes of troubleshooting. There's no question that the rubber in the bearing support is worn out though. If you could source out another propshaft that would save you the trouble of installing it and then having to remove it again...

The bearing may or may not be ok, It's the rubber support that is the problem and causing the noise when driving. Start sourcing out a replacement propshaft. You cannot service or replace that single support or bearing separately unfortunately.

It sounds like something inside the Bevel Gear like a bearing that came apart. I don't think it's the Collar as they usually make a buzzing noise as they spin over worn splines. I listened to your sound clip about 50 times. It's definitely coming from the Bevel Gear, almost sounds like one of the bearings inside, or a right CV axle support bearing.......or the collar sleeve. The propshaft turns all the time with the transmission through the bevel gear. If the whining sound is coming from the front around the floor area it is likely the collar sleeve spinning on the bevel gear input shaft. Pulling the haldex fuse in the back may stop the whining if the splines are just s...

Well, I missed it anyways. Someone else scooped me! No it was a nice light metallic green with tan and brown interior. Oh well, it seemed like a pretty good car for the price but I wasn't looking forward to doing the brake booster and whatever else it might need.

Re: Volvo 2.5T AWD 2003 Automatic delay 3 to 4
How many miles on the car? I did a Transgo valve body kit and rebuilt the linear solenoids and that made the car shift like new. I also had a really harsh shift from park to drive that cleaned up as well. Its not as big of a job as it sounds and well worth the time and $ 125.00 for the Transgo kit.

Re: Seat Cushion Swap
I just removed 2 really mint seat bottom skins and cushions from the wreckers. Pretty easy job. Start by going around and cutting the hog rings with side cutters, theres about 14 of them. Disconnect the wiring, really easy! Then peel the skin and cushion from back to front to reveal 4 more hog rings...

So you can safely do it with the battery disconnected? Do you have to ground the airbag wire or anything?

Re: Front seat removal, airbag concern?
Ok great thanks, I looked at your pictures on how to remove the seats once they're unbolted, thanks. That should make my job easier! I'm not changing the whole seat, just the lower seat skins but I will do it with the seat removed and on the bench.

Front seat removal, airbag concern?
I found some really nice seat bases for my 2003 XC 70 that aren't split and worn out like my own. I plan on removing the seats to change the bases obviously and want to make sure I don't get the airbags or any other sensors confused when I disconnect all the wires. Is there anything I need to do bef...

Re: Haldex AWD Diagnosis/ Repair
Thanks everyone, so to confirm, If I jack the front wheels up and spin the tires, the driveshaft should spin also. Is this the best rudimentary test of the Angle gear/ collar sleeve? Also, the procedure for checking the modules on the DIM doesn't seem to work on my car! I started it and left it in p...

Re: 2003 XC 70 Pulls left......alignment?
Changed the control arms and the inner and outer tie rod ends and it still pulls to the left! I checked the alignment and tweaked the toe in a few times and simply cannot get rid of the pull.subframe mounts appear ok and so does the rear suspension and bushings. Everything in the front is literally ...

Re: Haldex AWD Diagnosis/ Repair
Thanks for this information. What is the best way to test if the bevel gear or collar sleeve is intact and working correctly? I was thinking that if I have to rebuild that AND spend money on the Haldex and associated components in the rear that it may be cost prohibitive to restore the AWD. Also, if...

Haldex AWD Diagnosis/ Repair
I have owned my 2003 XC 70 for about 5 years now. The AWD system doesn't work anymore and I could not recall when it stopped working or if it ever worked since I owned it. The car has 270,000 kms. on it and I would really like to get the AWD working. I've fixed everything else on the car and labour ...

Re: 2003 XC 70 Pulls left......alignment?
Car has 272,000 kms. I ordered control arms this week plus a few other things I needed including new inner and outer tie rod ends. I checked the control arm bushings and they appear to be pretty soft, not really torn but are originals and Volvo units. I'm pretty sure thats what the problem is. Axles...

Re: 2003 XC 70 Pulls left......alignment?
Thanks, Oragex. I watched your video before aligning it using your technique. I put new springs in too with the struts and mounts. I've tried it with anything from zero to 5 mm total toe and still the same result. Brakes are new last year too with new rotors and tire pressure has been checked. I'm r...

2003 XC 70 Pulls left......alignment?
My XC 70 has started to pull to the left. The steering wheel is centered and I have checked and adjusted the toe in several times with no success in remedying this situation. Total toe is about 4mm, and I've adjusted left and right plus or minus 2mm each way with no success. Essentially, the alignme...

Re: 2003 XC 70 AW 55 Linear Solenoids
Ok great thanks! I am in Canada where they salt the roads so I am definitely going to have to fight with the torx bolts on the cover. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to go to the wreckers and get a VB and rebuild it so I can just R&R the one on the car with a rebuild?

2003 XC 70 AW 55 Linear Solenoids
I have determined that I need to clean up my linear solenoids, I've changed the B-4 Servo, flushed the fluid and changed the torque mounts, and updated the transmission software. Although these things improved the overall performance of the transmission, some symptoms remain that would point to the ...

Re: Intermitant no start and a P0014
I have voltage at the light Blue wire at the fuel pump harness but no life from the pump. Also the ground is good. Should there be any voltage from the other 5 wires that plug into the fuel pump? Does anyone have a wiring diagram of this connector and pump? Thanks.

Re: Intermitant no start and a P0014
K thanks, will do tomorrow. Also, I have a p0014 code. I read somewhere that if the Camshaft position sensor is failed the ECU would prevent fuel pump operation if it doesn't recognize the engine turning, any truth to that?

Re: Intermitant no start and a P0014
Are you suggesting that I have to take it to the dealer or can I check the ecu and associated connectors? I thought that p0014 was in reference to the camshaft position. I'm currently more concerned about the lack of fuel pressure, it seems most cars with a p0014 code still start and run.

Re: Intermitant no start and a P0014
I will check that out next. When they key is turned to the #2 position I can hear something running for a few seconds…..my understanding is that this is the brake accumulator. I do not think that I can hear a fuel pump. I will have to wait till the weekend to try and jump the relay. Thanks.

Intermitant no start and a P0014
So my 2003 XC 70 has 220,000kms on it, I bought it used about a year ago. About 6 months ago it would occasionally not start every couple weeks or so. After an hour or several or sometimes overnight it would start right up fine. Now it won't start at all and I've tried everyday for about 3 weeks! Th...
