Re: please post mvs link to timing belt tensioner VIN thread; unknown if it is hydraulic or mechanical Topic is solved

If you take off the top timing cover (The one with the clips), I bet you have enough space to look down and see if there is a mechanical tensioner or not.
if yes, you have one.. if not.. hydraulic (in a different location).

Re: Hidden rust - rear seat mounts under arch liners

Wow.. thanks for the notes on this. I have been so impressed with Volvo's rust protection that I wouldn't even bothered looking there. Just to be clear, jack up rear, remove wheel, remove plastic liner and inspect. Correct? The reason people don't notice this until it's too late is it's hidden by pl...

Re: O2 sensor

Spray the O2 sensor with your favorite penetrating oil before hand. Every time I had to replace a O2 sensor (on 5 different brand of cars) the job is only made difficult because of access or awkward positioning. For me they have ranged from being shockingly loose to tough to remove. But in all cases...

Re: Hole in my valve cover (not PCV) and oil leak

I find it amazing that they relied on the sealer to prevent leaks on a gaping hole in cover. I mean I get they would have had to change the molds for the castings but that seems like a better solution than leaving an actual hole in cover. Or maybe press/thread a plugin the hole. I know.. every optio...

Re: Hole in my valve cover (not PCV) and oil leak

I am having trouble finding a good clear picture of that hole on a cam cover in its good working condition. For example here is is on a (presumably good) engine but we can't see it close up. hole.png I suspect, and I can't confirm this, that it's supposed to have some plug in there to prevent oil fr...

Re: spark plug cover seals Topic is solved

Check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwenN6MKe8A You can see the cam cover with cams in it at the 30 second mark so you can see why it's different than the typical cam/valve cover. Then in this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRtym48myN8 you can see that he pays particular atten...

Re: spark plug cover seals Topic is solved

The reason this is much more involved in our Volvos when compared to most other cars is that cam cover in our volvos is much more than just a cover. I replaced a cam/valve cover in a nissan altima a month ago. It was literally just a plastic cover with integrated spark plug tube seals. The came shaf...

Re: New 850. What stuff are a MUST to replace/repair if the maintenance history is unknown?

In 1999 the crank pulley shield changed and I don’t think It’s possible to put the timing belt on without removing it or putting it through a horrible distortion. The crank pulley zips off with a 30mm and an impact pretty easily, especially if you do it before you pop the belt. Yup, I came to that ...
